Not automatically. But every author has the right to publish his books as "public domain" if he/she wishes so, so theoretically there may be (and are) books in the public domain that have only been published last year.

Such as almost every publication of the US government, for example.

Certainly true. They can also be published use a Creative commons license which can also be uploaded here if permitted in the license.

I am wondering if anybody is working on The Collected Works of William Butler Yeats. All volumes on Archive.org here

Maybe, I could work on it but it might take hell of time.

EDIT: Sigh, looks like nobody has even proofread it for Gutenberg. I might have to wait for this one.

The problem with this 8-volume Collected Works is that it's from 1908 - there was still a lot to come from Yeats at that point in time. I've been pondering doing a complete Yeats for a while, but it'll be an awful lot of work and I keep postponing...

Delphi Classics has a Yeats edition - far from complete, and the formatting leaves a lot to be desired, but it's cheap and gives you a lot of Yeats's works; at least the poetry and the plays are complete.

So, it's incomplete. Even the "Poetical Works" of Yeats reads 1920, so that is incomplete.
I did check again and find that they reissued the Collected Works. And according to Life+70, his works should be Public Domain. Though not entirely sure of the revised editions.

EDIT: Checked up wikisource, which states that under US Law any work before 1923 is in Public Domain, but all of his work is in the Public Domain in countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or less. So, the US has to wait a while for PD works of Yeats, that also means that not all works of his can't be uploaded to MR, for now.

The MR library is implementing Life +70, so there would be no problem uploading a complete Yeats here (of course our American members would have to drool over it without being allowed to download. ) - the problem is entirely in putting it together...

I was just noticing that MR's library is devoid of editions of Walter Pater's *The Renaissance* and *Appreciations*. Rather important criticism, and gorgeously written as well. Perhaps someone who had the time and inclination might consider creating them.

I was hoping to find None-Go-By in the MR library. The author, Cecily Wilhelmine Sidgwick (aka Cecily Wilhelmine Ullman Sidgwick & Mrs. Alfred Sidgwick) died in 1934, and this book was published in 1923.

Or if anyone can point me toward an ebook version I can legally purchase, I'd be very happy with that as well.

Thanks so much for offering to work on the Pater, and for understanding the meaning of my request on a thread that is dedicated to the same purpose as my post. Sometimes there can be a disconnect between British and American/Canadian ideas of etiquette in which both sides mean well. The above interchange might have been an example of that.

We've been seeing grateful posts by academics on your various ebook creation threads, which is hardly an accident. Your work has proved to be not only satisfying for casual readers but a life-saver for students and teachers.

My point was that Pater is a very significant critic of the Victorian period, that beautiful epub editions of his work seem not to exist, and that creating them would be helpful not only for me but perhaps for others as well.
