I just installed a Canon PIXMA MG4120 on my home network for wireless printing - no problems in setup (it found my router/cable modem) or printing from throughout the house.

If you don't need color, go for a laser printer.
If you do need color, go for a laser printer as well...

I will never ever buy an inkjet again. I'd possibly prefer to shoot myself if I ever need to deal with those again. Slow to start, slow to print, expensive in upkeep, and always in danger of drying out if you don't need to print regularly.

Sometimes, my laser sits idle for months, and suddenly I need a print or a copy. I hit the button, and 10 seconds later, the page is done. (This is including the time it takes the printer to come out of hibernation, and warm itself up.)

I have had a Lexmark wireless inkjet printer for 8 or 9 years. It has worked flawlessly through several laptop changes.

I'll second Canon Pixma. Easy to install, recognizes all of our computers, tablets, iPhones, etc. Cheap good quality prints, and even photos work 'fairly' well. We refill our ink cartridges so the cost is virtually pennies to use, warms up in 20 seconds and prints a page of text in just a few more.

Couldn't agree more. I have a non wireless HP laserjet connected through a wireless hub. Antique setup I know but it works.

Paid $149 CAD in 2008 and another $25 to get a replacement black cartridge last year. No mess, no fuss no bother.

My only problem is it's weight, but I bought a very nice wheeled printer stand for $10 from the Salvation Army Thrift Store.

I don't print a lot, less than 1000 PPY I am sure, and not much colour so probably good for another 10 years on current cartridges.

My sister has an Epson Inkjet, and prints far less. Every year she has to buy new cartridges because they have dried out. I tell her to put the tape back on or soak them in water etc. but she is not technically inclined and usually I only hear about it after the fact so it is too late.

Plus laser doesn't smudge or smear.

During the last couple of months my eyelids become dry and irritated every once in a while. It starts with a itchy chafing feeling and a little bit of swelling along my eyelashes (which disappears during the day) and after that the skin becomes dry, within a couple of days it's gone. I've been dealing with it by applying moisturiser regularly and that seems to work reasonably.

Until this morning. When I woke up and couldn't fully open my left eye because it's swollen. I just made an appointment with the doctor and can come in in half an hour. Hopefully I get prescribed something that makes the swelling go down quickly because my eye looks ridiculous.

Yes, exactly the same set up. I also reinstalled the printer software which updated itself at that time.

According to the doctor it's an infection along the eyelash-line. He prescribed an anti-biotic gel. I did ask him if it was okay to wear my contact lenses, he said it was no problem. However, I'm now reading the instructions and it says not to wear contact lenses. I'm not happy since I have to use the gel for about 4 weeks.

Luckily the swelling has now gone down enough so I can open my eye properly and it isn't so obvious anymore.

I should add that everything other members have said about other printers goes for the Epson WorkForce 545 as well, at least from my experience. It recognizes not only my wife's iMac and my PC, but my iPad as well.

The second one I tried was an Epson Workforce (I couldn't tell you the number offhand). It connected to my network, but then was just uncontactable from my laptop no matter what I did. I did manage to print from my Nexus 7 on it using an Epson app, but I couldn't use the scanner via that route as it insisted there was nothing on the scanner bed no matter what was actually on there.

I think I'd pay almost anything for a printer that just worked without requiring an advanced network degree and the patience of Job on the part of the person setting it up.

I've never bothered to set up a wireless printer, primarily because it's just as easy here to string a piece of CAT5 network cable to the nearest switch. This has the undoubted advantage of not requiring any password or configuration AT ALL. Plug it in, power it up, and it connects. Done.

Let me second/third/whatever the suggestion to go with a Laser. Really. They are far better, and significantly cheaper over time.

Good luck, but DO avoid the contacts for a while. And consider moving to different contacts or a different regime for the current ones. I have no idea what kind you currently wear, but there are ways you can reduce the risk with them.

I agree with that. I used to just email something to myself and print it from the computer with the printer connected.

One of my roommates hooked it up to the wireless hub for his convenience and it is slightly more convenient I must admit.

You can also plug a non wireless printer into the USB port of a 'cloud storage drive' if you have one or justify purchasing one if you haven't
