Doc Savage Novels? and ?opinion Google Nexus 7
Hello,
First time on this site.--new to ebooks. does anyone know of any place to get the Doc Savage novels for ebooks possibly free? Many years ago I read the Bantam paperbacks-but... I was thinking of getting a Google Nexus 7 [2013] for a reader of ebooks and small tablet to also get email and searches--opinions? Thanks ahead of time Doc Fan |

What country are you in? That's the key factor in determining whether or not they are legally available free for you.

WOW Doc Savage. I haven't read any of those in probably 30 years. Did a quick search on Kobo and they have 7 listed for $2.49 (Canadian). Not free but still not to bad of a price. Could not find in when using a US address.
Added to my "To be purchased list" Thank for the reminder. Last edited by Danger; 05-04-2014 at 12:21 PM. |

The Nexus 7 is a really good tablet. It gets Android updates quickly and doesn't really have any bloatware crap on it. For your needs it'll do wonderfully. I have a Nexus 7 (2012) model I got for my mom, she loves the thing.

I love reading on a ebook reader, however. No comparison at all! For travelling, I actually have a very nice little zip case with a foam insert that allows me to carry both the Kobo and the Nexus 7.2 easily. Otherwise, I carry only the Kobo. Hope this helps. |

Here are the Doc Savage copyright rules...(And there are maybes included in them.)
US - all under copyright. No legal E-books released of the orginal Doc Savages. Some of the recent Will Murray versions are available on e-books. See various e-books sellers. Life + 70 countries EU and many others...Too long to list. All under copyright. No legal E-books released that I know of. 159 wiil become PD on Jan 1, 2030. A few will become PD (9, I think) in 2021, some others in 2026. The last ones will become PD in 2066. (Ryer Johnson wrote 3, and died in 1995.) Life + 50 - Around 170 are already PD, the rest going PD at various time ending 2046. (Maybes - Some jurisdiction give dofferent length copyright protections for works for hire. All Doc Savages were works for hire, however sometimes the copyight will revert from work-for-hire to standard author copyright when the name of the author of a work-for-hire is attributed. You legal mileage may vary...) (Somewhere around here I did the breakdown, a few years ago. I'm too lazy to look it up...) (I looked it up - so sue...) https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ght=doc+savage Last edited by Greg Anos; 05-04-2014 at 07:45 PM. |

So, if you want some of the books free, and legal, then you need to move to somewhere like Australia. It might be cheaper to just buy the ones that are out in ebook in USA. Try Google?
Good hunting! |

A lot of folks here at MR are ebook purists -- not that there's anything wrong with that! -- but I'm willing to read a paper-based book if it makes sense. Doc Savage was hugely popular way back when, and there's no shortage of used books on the market. Amazon has quite a few, starting at $4 (one cent for the book, $3.99 for shipping). There are several used book stores near me that carry a lot of mass market paperbacks from the 50s to the 80s and books like these are usually 50 cents to a dollar each. Have you checked any used book stores near you?

I do it because of that, plus they don't take up physical space. I can't stand to sell or trade my books (because I'll probably read them again) so I have boxes tucked away in a storage shed. Now I try to avoid buying a physical book if at all possible to keep the clutter down.

Manabí - I totally get you.
But I must confess: my mind flashed from reading that you kept books tucked in away in a storage shed to this story about Gus Hasford: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustav..._theft_charges. Making that connection says more about me than it does about you. ![]() |
