Which was more of the same - an enjoyable story, this time reaching a reasonable conclusion, while clearly setting up the next series. But I shall hold off on that one until they're all written I think.

Next: F&FSF May/June 2014 as it seems to have been released a day or two 'early'.

Now, back to Grand Central Arena.
Continuing with GCA and enjoying it, though I doubt I'll give 5 stars. Meanwhile, also reading/listening to Georgette Heyer's Talisman Ring. What a joy these books are! Even if I hadn't read this one many years before, I'd certainly know who did what to whom, and how it would all end, but that's completely irrelevant to the fun of the story.

Reading Think Of A Number by John Verdon for a book review. It is really good.

And it was. I really enjoyed this one. There was one scene that was more graphic than I wish it was (not violence), but other than that it was just a good fun read. I will definitely keep my eye on this series.

Next is Rules of Prey by John Sandford since I reserved it when it got nominated for the book club and it has come in already. Hopefully I will get the actual selection in time to read it for the club too.

I just finished The Angel of Darkness, the second in Caleb Carr's Kreizler series. Still busy with Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell and a few others, so I probably shouldn't start these Peter Grant novels by Ben Aaronovitch...

I'm continuing my reread of Proust, still within the first volume (Du côté de chez Swann, in English better known as Swann's Way). Not to give any big spoilers but I'm at the part where the narrator is spying on the much-gossiped about daughter of a piano teacher, page 162 in my paperback "folio" edition.

Yes, I said paperback. Most of my reading is done with the e-book version but I find myself referring back to my print copy for its superior explanatory notes and summaries. This is despite my paperback's rather densely packed fine print. To illustrate, I've attached a sample of the text, and this comes from a book that's mass-market paperback sized, 527 pages for this volume.

The reading experience really is better as an e-book for this title, because I can resize the text or call up a dictionary at a touch. As for the book itself, it's a time-consuming text that demands your full attention to understand it. At the same time the book is beautifully written, with complex characters and some quite funny moments.

Still reading the F&SF, but I also started and finished The Limpopo Academy Of Private Detection by Alexander McCall Smith. A delight, as always.

And now I'm also reading Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams.

Just finished A Touch of Deceit by. Gary Ponzo, the first in the Thrilling Thirteen bargain and it was a fast read and a great thriller. Next up, number two, Russian Hill by Ty Hutchinson

Ponzo is awesome! You are going to want to read the entire series.

I tend to think of books like this as "mind candy". They taste pretty good but not much value to them. Lots of fun.

Not sure what is next since I doubt any of my other holds will come in in the next week or two. Oh well, I have all weekend to decide.

The Dirk Gently disappointed. Some wonderful moments and ideas, but the overall story wasn't so good. In truth, I suppose the same could be said of H2G2. Perhaps my expectations were too high.

The F&SF had a couple of stories that continued stories that had appeared in previous issues. They were most enjoyable and saved the issue for me. The other stories were too often dystopias/post-apocolyptic for my taste.

And now onto this month's Phoenix Pick freebie, The Warlock In Spite of Himself by Christopher Stasheff. I'm sure I've read this, but over 30 years ago. If I really like it now, I'll buy the next two, which Phoenix Pick have on special offer this month.

Finished Grand Central Arena, and enjoyed it. Better than I expected, a solid 4 stars. And I'll definitely be reading later books in this universe.

Next up, the second book in the DCI Banks series by Peter Robinson, A Dedicated Man. Started this yesterday, and enjoying it so far. Definitely at a different pace than GCA.

I just finished Cold is the Grave, the eleventh book in the DCI Banks series and am half way through number twelve Aftermath. I really like this series.

Yes, I'm enjoying them. For some reason, the first time I tried to read them, I was not able to get into them. But this time around, I'm enjoying quite a bit. Best part is, almost all of them are available for download from my Library.
