Brand new ebook already errors?

Why when creating a new ebook with calibre-edit. does it already have errors, when validating it.

edit
only azw3 gets errors.

I cant fix it. they get automatically added every time i open the book.

I just opened the editor, created a new empty book and then added an new XHTML file. Calibre generated some code for the XHTML file. Doing a check on that showed no errors.

What did you do that showed the errors?

I did the same except the file i added was html. and calibre didn't touch it.

why does the TOC or opf have links to images (image 1 image 2 etc) if the book has no images.

I'll check again but i think it was there before.

PS: I didn't have errors too when I start a new ebook (including a TOC)

I'm relatively sure David had no errors not now errors and definitely not "new" errors as you changed it.

I suspect PeterT was correct garbage in garbage out. Your html file is most likely the source of your errors.

Firstly, as DoctorOhh commented, I meant "no errors" not "now errors".

I don't think you understood what I did. Here are the steps:

- Open the editor
- Selected "Create new, empty book" from the file menu
- Put in a title and pressed the "EPUB" button.
- When prompted I entered the file name and pressed OK
- Then I selected "New file" from the file menu
- When prompted, I entered a file name with the extension "XHTML" and pressed OK.

The above generated as skeleton epub with two files in it. The XHTML file I added had the code needed to start the file. When I ran check in this, I had no errors. While writing this up, I repeated the above but used the extension "HTML". Again, I didn't have any errors after that.

From your description, I don't think you did what I did. What did you do? Did you add an existing HTML file from your disk? If so, the chances of an error when you check that is fairly high.

Adding HTML? Maybe there was a <img link in there
IIRC the import will grab all the referenced pieces it vcan

we are back to GIGO

That is true! Needs to be in a folder all by its lonesome...at least no other html files.

it was only 25-30 lines long and it had no image links.

I did the same thing as @davidfor except
choosing azw3.
getting three files not two .
adding html not xhtml.
changeing javascript links to "<a href="text">text</a>" using regex and
removing JavaScript links in the head.

no it was not in it's own folder but nothing came with it i still have four files in the book: opf, toc, html that calibre added and the one i added.

I'll check again what the errors were.

BTW @Divingduck i cant make out any animated pictures because i'm using my kindle to see this.

Open a bug... You don't even have to add any content to the AZW3 to replicate this.
