Rats! I was holding out for a long time and I *just* bought and read the 50th anniversary paperback a few weeks ago. Oh well, I can still read "Rebecca" on my ereader!

This has been on my wish list at ereaderiq.com. This morning I got a notification that it will be released July 8, 2012 and that it is available for pre-order at Amazon US for $4.74. Great news!

Glad to see that it's finally been made available in ebook form though, since it's required reading in a lot of school curricula.
If you've avoided this novel because it sounds weighed down by a fifties-obvious message about prejudice, don't let that high school book report summary fool you. The protag's communion with outsiders is more fun than you might think, and the primary reason that people love Mockingbird is because of the main character -- an endearingly unpleasant little girl whom we've all either known or been. Before Harper Lee, you wouldn't have met a girl like that in books.

Without Harper Lee's influence, Capote's best wouldn't be quite as good as it is (and his child self is said to be the basis for Scout's neighbor, since he and Lee grew up together).

Thank you so much! I just pre-ordered it as well. This is one of the few required reading books that I ever truly enjoyed. I think it's because I did relate to Scout as well as to the southern setting. I also respected Atticus in ways that I couldn't respect some of the people that I knew in reality.

This article from The Guardian made me realize that my copy of One Hundred Years of Solitude is probably not a legit one. I'll get in touch with the store to see if I can get a refund

Rather annoying that Kobo offers the (k)epub version for $9.99. Two years ago, a coupon might have erased the difference.

Thats great news. Though I think there is one slight inaccuracy of the article, the last line in particular:
Quote:
Other works still unavailable as ebooks include The Autobiography of Malcolm X and Gabriel García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude.
Amazon has a kindle edition of GGM's One hundred Years of Solitude here.

It's not available for purchase, though, at least in the US, and it's ranking leads me to believe it's only available to certain countries using .com.

This is great! It is now the first book I've pre-ordered.

To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the few books that I regularly reread. When I bought my first ereader I donated all my paper books to charity naively thinking I'd go all ebooks all the time. I've been in Mockingbird withdrawal for far to long.

That's spot on for me. I'm currently reading the latest Flavia de Luce by Alan Bradley and thinking "What an unpleasant little girl but oh, so much fun!"

If Guardian is a British paper, as I was convinced till now, then nearly all of Marquez's ebooks are available on Kobo UK and I presume Amazon UK too. This is since around March this year.
They are also available on Kobo India, as kepub. And Google Play as ePub.

The article itself was from the AP, so while the statement in question is not globally correct, it was true from the US perspective from which the article was written. It's not the first time that the Guardian has run AP content that was lacking in international context. And it's definitely not the first time that the AP has included US-centric statements without qualifying them as such, despite the fact that publications from all over the world run their content.

In the UK the Guardian has a bit of a reputation for typos and errors. As well as a regular, lengthy, errors column in the paper itself, its reputation is so cemented that the satirical magazine Private Eye always refers to it as the Grauniad.
