Oils are the easiest to maintain but don't skip a beat.

Agreed. However, I was told (and it is clear to me that it is true), that no finish in the world would stand up to the Texas weather for more than 4-5 years. And, the contractors were giving me quotes of $3,000 to $5,000 to do the doors .... every four to five years.

Now ... the Homer Formby stuff goes on so easily that I can very (very) easily do it myself. Just wipe it on and let it dry. And, the cost to do all the doors in my house (13 or 14 of them .... I forget the exact number) is only $128.

Even if I had to do that every other year ... it is so not a big deal. I'm putting six coats of the tung oil on the doors. Over the next few years, I'll have a great opportunity to see how well that fares. If it even lasts one year, I'm still way ahead of the game.

They are quite expensive. I would do your doors for 150 each.
Don't overdo it with the oils, after 4 coats they won't dry as fast and might stay tacky, gathering scum. If you do 5 coats every 2 years, after a while you might find you need to take some off. That is not so easy, believe me. The stuff resists quite a many removers.

I've coated my French windows with Sadolin, which is a weather-resistant wood-stain finish. It is Swedish. I figured that anything which survived Swedish winters should work in Wales. The nice thing is that the finish wears away very gradually and doesn't peel, as paint does. When I recoat, every three years or so, i just wash the wood and give it a very light sanding if necessary.

I've already done one door. Six coats dried beautifully. But, I have no problem with lightly sanding it every once in a while.

Contractors are extremely expensive around here. That's just the way it is.

Just finished repositioning the sink in our rather small bathroom to, hopefully, allow space into which we can install a shower cubicle.
Darling daughter needs her daily shower....

Conditions in texas are quite a bit different than in Quebec. The dryness and heat there will add a lot to the numbe of coats that will dry hard before they become tacky. 'Course, doing it in the midst of a monsoon would not work too well, though.

Yup ... Texas is "different" alright.

And, I am waiting 24 hours between coats. Which help a little.

Oh, and today I am going to try to finish the new printer table.

Currently enjoying a square of very nice dark chocolate (Lindt single estate Ecuador, 75%), and making slow progress with a chainmaille bracelet - which would be going a lot quicker if I didn't keep launching the jump rings across the room...

Also fiddling around with rigging the Marvin model, since Daz Studio now has rigging tools available. As a gift for someone. Anyone wanna guess who?
