Just got firmware 3.3.0 - Page 6

Does anyone with an Aura HD see the new Reading Settings feature regarding the headers and footers? I don't see it on my 3.3 updated device even after a full reboot.

After adding the "FullScreenReading=true" line to the [FeatureSettings] section in the config file, I saw the Page Layout => Show Header and Footer in the Reading settings page in Settings. Removed the check mark and saw several people's dream with text from top to bottom.

After all my fiddling with my Kobo ereaders, that was the first time I'd seen the critical error screen pop up forcing me to do a factory reset I really didn't want to wait while 2000 books were processed so just faster to do the firmware update in two stages.

Yea. I got it now. I saved the original config file and edited it with Notepad++ this time. Voila! This is, seriously, the best feature the HD has going for it, being really the only larger pure ereader in the widely available market... and they keep the feature hidden!?

Oh wow, I can't even imagine how long that would've taken. I had less than 300 books and I still found it took forever. It probably didn't help that I was just watching it though.

Any reason why you updated to 3.1.1 first? Couldn't you have just avoided the update, processed the books, and then updated to 3.3.0?

I do really hope something has gone wrong with my update, but I really fear we have yet ANOTHER bug here.

Have you used the Web Browser? Have you dragged/moved a webpage?

Till 3.3.0., while dragging, the web browser performed a "fast" rendering so the device was quite responsive and at the same time you could more or less see the new web page contents. When and only you finished and released the drag action a full refresh was made.

But now, continuous full refreshes are done while you are dragging making the navigation a PITA.

But this is not the only issue, quite frequently, when you drag while the keyboard is being shown, this keyboard area is completely displayed in white. The keyboard still works and when you press any (hidden) key, the whole keyboard is correctly refreshed and re-displayed. But sometimes, it is kept hidden but the last pressed keys which are the only ones being correctly refreshed and displayed (photo attached)...

I'm reverting to 3.2.0. for the time being...

Some of the earlier firmware version had issues with books on an uSD card so I went to 3.1.1 to avoid the possibility.

It beat copying everything over and leaving my Aura HD plugged in overnight.

Is it just me or dbeinder's nightmode hack stopped working on 3.3.0? I went full factory reset because me sideloading 3.3.0 coincided with me replacing the internal SD card, and now i can't get the nightmode hack to work.

Thanks, that works, except when the word is not found. But now I've been using it for a while, I think the new method is still a definite improvement on the old one.

(I.e. Fullscreen reading has always been a feature of my Touch)

Lucas Malor, I'd like to try that 'dhcpd=true' in 'Kobo eReader.conf', as I'm curious if it might fix our WiFi problem in the version 3 firmware that causes our Kobo's to fail to reconnect unless the router is set to assign fixed IP addresses. FW 3.3 isn't installed (yet), but under which heading do you put this?

Does anybody know if this bug has been fixed in 3.3 even without this option?

Ah, thanks for clearing that up

I mostly use night mode with manga, it's the quickest way to force a page refresh whenever there's ghosting in a page. In darker pages right after light pages sometimes it seems i'm looking at a negative XD
