update; so I looked up the main epub vs kepub differences ( in the relevant thread) :
The main benefits of using the kepub renderer (which some may prefer not to have) are: Page numbers show the number of page turns remaining in the current chapter instead of the estimated number of pages for the entire book. ... Reading statistics (time left in this chapter, time for the next chapter, time to complete the book) The book title is shown at the top of each page. The chapter title, if any, is shown at the bottom of each page with the page numbers. Well I seem to have all of those already, for epubs that I am reading with the kobo android app. there i jsut one rick tha thte native Kidnble readin ap does bteer & that is to give a tru full screen experience, the Kobo app cannot hide the llittle "= "marker at center-foot of screen that you press to get to android home button. Most game paps do hide that until you press the part of the screen where you know it lives. I guess that the readiing epub on Kobo tablets will also give a "kepub" experience with used with side-loaded epubs, as its the same app on their own tablets as it is in the Google play store. so you'd think it would be easy-peasy to offer it as an option on their own e-ink hardware ??? so now, if actually want to make and send a .kepub format to thte amazon toablet, I need to install the relevant plug-in in calibre & do a conversion, which calibre will then tore as an additional format in its library ? I may try that, if it is simplet, to see if I can spot any differences. |

There's two KePub plugins, a driver plugin and a conversion plugin. If you use the conversion plugin, calibre stores the book as a separate format in its database. If you use the driver, the book is converted as it is being sent to the Kobo device and the KePub result is not stored in calibre. The driver is aware of the conversion plugin, so if you convert a book to KePub you can send the KePub format using the driver and it won't re-do the conversion.
