EPUB size versus Marvin space on iPad
Hello Kris,
As my Nook sits and gathers dust, I want to thank you again for Marvin. My iPad Mini and Marvin are a great book reading team! ![]() I have a question about Marvin's space utilization on an iPad: I have loaded 589 books into Marvin. The total size of the epub's is 463 MB. However my iPad is reporting "Documents & Data" usage of 887 MB for Marvin. I know that an epub is a compressed file (like zip or rar). Does Marvin utilize iPad space with the epub's UNcompressed? Does that primarily account for the difference in epub size versus iPad space utilization? Just wondering ... Thanks, Marty |

Marty, I'll chime in here, although Kris will be the ultimate authority.
Marvin does store books in their original zipped format. However, when Marvin adds a book to its library, two uncompressed versions of the cover (large and small) are extracted from the epub and stored separately. These are used in the Home screen and Library screen. Additionally, Marvin maintains a database of annotations, highlights, Deep view content, bookmarks, etc. Both the iOSRA and MXD plugins store caches in Marvin's storage as well. These are not large, but they do take some space. Kris can fill in the gaps, but I think that explains at least some of the additional storage you're seeing. G |

@GRiker,
Thank you Greg. The large cover jpg's alone account for almost 100 MB of the space on the iPad. Both the iOSRA and MXD plugins are working great and are providing some useful information: - When I'm reading a complicated book, I highlight and write many notes to assist my aging gray cells, and then forget to delete them after they've served their purpose. MXD clearly points out where housekeeping is needed. - Apparently I've changed a good bit of metadata in calibre without updating/saving the metadata imbedded in the actual epub. Again, MXD has pointed out my oversights, and I've been updating some important stuff like series info. Marty |
