Yes I savvy, you want access to a service for which other people pay within the price of a book they buy from Amazon.

This has nothing to do with copyright or piracy - its to do with access to a commercial service - posting quotes from an ebook on a Kindle to a facebook account. Amazon will do it for ebooks they sold to you, but not for books that were obtained from some other entity. GM will provide a warranty on the cars they make & sell, but they wont provide warranty on cars that Ford make & sell - savvy.

I suspect there are extant ebook reader applications that run on platforms that are more open than Kindle, such as Android and IOS, that factor the cost of sending quotes to social media within the price of the software - its the sort of thing that often differentiates Lite (freeware) and Pro (payware) variants.

I have never used a Kindle but IIRC in the past there are methods built into calibre (mobi output) that allow you to share to facebook as long as you stick with old mobi not AZW or both.

OK - but I guess they don't also offer free syncing across all your devices , free web hosting for your quotes/highlights, & the ability to also share those to social media:-)

which seems to be the main give-me-something-for-nothing gripe here.

PS I thought Amazon owned mobi format & do not share the "how-to" knowledge - or is it only the added DRM that is proprietary

To much spam for nothing. So nobody knows how can be done to share quotes with the name of the book that you're reading? This has nothing to do with the copyrights of the book. I found that there is hack for kindle touch, probably this can solve my problem.

Old school and manual way of doing it is to highlight the quotes you want to share on the kindle. The kindle saves them to a clippings text file which you can use copy using your pc or mac by connecting via USB. Then share to FB.

1. Amazon know how to do it

2. I know 2 other ways to do it. 1 use a Kobo reader, 2 use a Sony reader

the previous poster gave you yet another way

PS repeatedly trying to do it via Amazon's Kindle added-value services , but without paying for the privilege, could be viewed by Amazon as a TOS violation, so don't come crying here if your next clever hack gets your device permanently blacklisted by Amazon.

Hmmm... after re-reading all of the advertising by Amazon for the paperwhite, the sharing of quotes, etc. is portrayed as a feature of the paperwhite itself and no where is it stated that it only works on books purchased from Amazon. Seems like 'adjusting' your books so that they can have quotes, etc. shared is actually helping Amazon meet its advertising claims for the device.

why don't you take this to amazon support / forums - it's not a calibre problem.

perhaps amazon customer services will explain to you why you are wasting you time here - we clearly can't
