I'm not a "dog" person--I'm a "cat" person--but we'll say that I'm posting this as my good deed for the day.
A Quick Start Guide to Traveling with Your Dog. By Caesar Owens. Digital list price $0.99; Kindle price $0.00. Five stars out of 5 from 8 reviews at the present moment. http://www.amazon.com/Quick-Start-Gu...+With+Your+Dog. Today, it’s very easy to take your pets whenever you travel. It can be a trip to the beach, another state or even another country. No matter where you go, hotels, airlines, cruise lines and even restaurants have become more open in accepting pets. In fact, some of them have even upgraded their services so they can cater the needs of pets and pet owners together. For this reason, it’s almost unfair if we leave our animals behind when we travel, and we don’t need to come up with excuses about not bringing out animals along. If it’s your first time taking your pets with you, you may find it quite complicated since there are some things you need to consider before you travel. You also need to attend to the needs of your pet all throughout the length of your journey. That’s why this eBook was created. It will serve as a guide, especially for pet owners, who will be traveling with their dogs. A Quick Start Guide to Traveling With Your Dog covers the following topics and more: - Should You Travel With Your Dog? - Things to Pack When Traveling With Your Dog - Things to Do and Places to Go - Finding Dog-Friendly Hotels - Traveling by Car - Traveling by Plane - Traveling by Boat - Dining With Dogs - Dog Medications for Travel - Overview on International Pet Travel There, I've done it. Now I won't have to worry about doing another good deed until tomorrow . . . . |

Mind of the Raven by Bernd Heinrich is $1.99 at the moment Amazon US Kobo B&N
Description: Heinrich involves us in his quest to get inside the mind of the raven. But as animals can only be spied on by getting quite close, Heinrich adopts ravens, thereby becoming a "raven father," as well as observing them in their natural habitat. He studies their daily routines, and in the process, paints a vivid picture of the ravens' world. At the heart of this book are Heinrich's love and respect for these complex and engaging creatures, and through his keen observation and analysis, we become their intimates too. I read this one in print a decade ago, and if you've any interest in birds (especially the smart corvids) or well-documented accounts of animal thinking and behavior, I would heartily recommend it. Cheap, but Not Quite Free, Chuck Norris Autobiography
Against All Odds. By Church Norris; Ken Abraham. Print list price $14.99. $.99 for both the Kindle at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Against-All-Od...ainst+All+Odds) and Nook at Barnes & Noble (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/agai...ll+odds+norris). Rated 4 and 1/2 stars out of 5 at both places.
A New York Times best seller. Millions of people worldwide know Chuck Norris as the star of more than twenty motion pictures, a martial arts expert, and the only man in the Western Hemisphere to hold an eighth degree Black Belt Grand Master in Tae Kwon Do. Countless others see him daily in syndicated reruns as the hero of the longest running CBS series to date, “Walker, Texas Ranger.” What many don’t know is that Chuck Norris is a sincere Christian–a man whose faith plays a role in everything he does. Against All Odds is the inspirational story of how Norris overcame abject poverty from childhood, the effects of his father’s alcoholism and desertion of the family, and his own shyness and lack of strength and ability early in his life. Norris writes candidly about the past and gives God full credit for where he is today. |

A Kindle Freebie for You Wordsmiths
Folks, this thread is being seriously neglected.
The Word I'm Thinking Of: A Devilish Dictionary of Difficult Words. By Michael Gates. Print list price $7.50; Digital list price $4.99; Kindle price $0.00. Rated five stars out of 5 from 5 customer reviews at the present moment. http://www.amazon.com/Word-Im-Thinki...ifficult+Words. Absquatulate. Flumadiddle. Gongoozler. Squintifego. If you love words, you know the strange byways of memory or reverie that stumbling across a certain word or phrase will take you down, especially if it's one you're discovering and finding the meaning of for the first time. Chances are, you have never encountered words as unusual as those collected in this 170-page book. You'll find definitions and parts of speech for each entry. And for each word, the author has also included a quotation to show how the word can be used in context. His hope is that this book will spark interest in these ostrobogulous words and that you will use them in your daily conversations--perhaps as a humorous social-science experiment to see what kinds of reactions you receive. Amaze your friends with your selcouth vocabulary and indulge your inner logophile! A funny--the four unusual words used in the book description are so obscure that the spellchecker did not recognize them. |

I tried to quote myself, but couldn't figure out how to do it.
I'm disappointed that the book does not include supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. |

Forgotten Sacrifice: The Arctic Convoys of World War II
by Michael Walling is today's Nook Daily Find. It can be downloaded for $2.99 http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/forg...=9781782002901 Below is the blurb: The story begins in October 1939, when Germany and the Soviet Union began diplomatic maneuvering. The action accelerates with Winston Churchill’s decision in 1941 to provide supplies to Soviet forces battling the German invasion and for five long years, thousands of men and women fought ferociously in the coldest corner of hell on earth. Some fought for survival, some struggled to help others survive, and some sought to crush their enemies. The Arctic Convoys were war without mercy. If man-made death didn’t get you, the Arctic’s weapons of ice and cold would. These natural weapons killed regardless of whose side you were on or how just your cause. No one escaped unscathed. Author Mike Walling captures the convoy’s bitter essence and reveals a timeless tale of determination, heroism, sacrifice, and the strength of the human spirit. |

Free Kindle Hawaii Guidebook
I've been dilatory in posting the last day or two, so I'm going to make up for it by making one post on this thread and one on the "Free/Bargain Christian Interest" thread soon after. The post of the "Free/Bargain Christian Interest" thread could probably just as rightly be posted here.
I came across this guidebook on Hawaii. Normally I'd be leary of such, as it seems like a lot of the free guidebooks are either cheesy/commercialized, too brief, or out of date, or some combination of those three. This one seems to be none of those. And, it comes at my favorite price--free. Now if I could just find free airfare . . . . Hawaii for Free: Hundreds of Free Things to Do in Hawaii. By Frances Carter. Rated five out of 5 stars, but out of only 2 reviews, at the present moment. 166 pages. Digital list price $4.99; Kindle price $0.00. http://www.amazon.com/Hawaii-Free-Hu...o+Do+in+Hawaii. Hawaii is famous for her pristine beaches and awesome scenic attractions, but few visitors realize there are hundreds of great things to do and see in the Islands that are absolutely free. This guidebook will tell you where to find ancient archaeological sites, stargaze atop Mauna Kea, visit the USA's only rainforest zoo, sample wine on Maui, take guided hikes through gorgeous botanical gardens, watch Japanese folk dancing, and much more. All for FREE! Frances Carter has compiled a gold mine of ideas and tips for enjoying America’s paradise inexpensively. For the budget traveler – or anyone who loves a bargain – Hawaii for Free is an essential resource. |
