It's not in the Google Play store. You download it from Amazon and install it to your Android device...

...apps in the Amazon store work on Android devices that meet the apps requirements. The apps that say (Kindle Fire) in their name are Fire only, but the app store shouldn't show those as compatible when using it on other devices.

Very cool. Thank you. How did I not know that...

No, but it is at the link I provided.

As a general rule of thumb, any Android app should work on any android device, assuming the system requirements are met. Which isn't to say there have never been compatibility issues, but they tend to be edge cases.

I'd say the Note 3. You can screen cap and annotate any screen, including book pages right our of the kindle app. If you need to hand write, write in the margins etc, it can be a useful feature.

Amazon App Store is NOT on Google Play

I searched Google Play on my Galaxy S5 and could not find the Amazon App Store. I did find the Kindle Reader and installed it.

There may be a reason. I notice that AcroBible looks and feels different on the phone versus the tablet and I noticed the same with GSam. Thus, I went ahead and spent about $ 30 to buy all the Apps from the Google Play Store.

The Apps may have the same names but they work differently.

On the S5 one must also allow Unknown Apps to install if they come from anywhere but the Google Play Store. I believe even Samsung Apps need that permission.

Thus, with my Kindle Fires I buy all Apps from Amazon and with my Galaxy S5 I buy them all from Google.

I also notice that Google is selling eBooks as well and they have their own reader. Next time I buy a book I will compare prices and buy from the lowest price between Amazon and Google. Its possible the Google Reader will be much better than the Amazon App for Android on the S5. I won't know until I buy one.

The Kindle Reader App for Android is NOT as good as the native reader on the Fires for Amazon eBooks.

You can upload your own books to Google Books, this will let you test the reader app. You can get free Public Domain books in a variety of places (even from Google Books, now I come to think of it). Or perhaps it is time to use Apprentice Alf's tools.

Does Google Reader accept Kindle books?

Does Google Reader accept Kindle books without modification?

The reason the apps don't work properly is that a smart phone has different geography, operating system and hardware than a tablet.

Its possible the Fire Apps work fine on the Nexus 7 but need different code on the S5.

Same geography same OS, mostly same hardware (not meaningfully different), actually.

You don't install Amazon App Store from the Google Play. Instead you'll have to enable unknown sources from settings and then download the program directly from Amazon.

And no, Samsung store doesn't need that setting. Not in Samsung devices anyway.

Thanks for that information.

However, I studied the Kindle App from Google Play and it definitely is different than the Fire App for reading eBooks. Also, I notice the AcroBible is also different. For example, the main menu to locate bible books is just letters on the S5 but is full icons on the Kindle Fire.

The Fire AcroBible would definitely NOT work on the S5. It simply won't fit.

Or maybe it just gave you phone version and there is another for tablets. The developers on Play can decide what they want you to use if anything.

You might be able to backup the apk from your other android device and then use it on the S5. That is how I did with Donald Duck which was restricted to work only with real tablets (I have the superior Note3 btw). I installed it on my Nexus7 and then copied the apk to the note3. Worked like charm. However, dpi dependent programs might look little bit odd on wrong devices. I would personally like to spank all developers who do that.

You could also modify the device's dpi setting, but I understood it would require rooting the device. And that on modern Samsung device might mean losing the warranty.
