Had a friend who had one - they are great dogs. And definitely not "one handers"!

Lap dogs are not real dogs. They are just there for the real dogs to make fun of.

Hairless cats look miserable to me. Along the lines of, "I was just sitting here minding my own business when a rag with ether came from behind. When I woke up I was naked. And now you want me to pose for a picture? Just wait, I'll have my revenge."

As to all the other pics people posted... "Cute! Super-Cute!"

Those hairless cats remind me of a story that has been in my family for almost a century. My great-grandfather had 12 children. Two of them were tearaways in their youth, so the great-grandfather punished them. This was Scotland, so he beat them. As a revenge, the two got out their airguns and shot the heads off all his prize tulips, and then shaved his cat.
They went on to become fighter pilots and died in the skies over Germany.

Oh dear, they really knew how to hurt him, didn't they? And I'm sorry to hear about their deaths. They sounded like the type who would have grown up into good men......

Yeah, but you also need cocoa, and I keep forgetting to buy any every time I'm at the store. At least ... I think I don't have cocoa ... maybe I do somewhere.

But, I've got a ton of Hershey's in the kitchen. That'll do.

That really needs to go in the Wiki, preserved for posterity. Or at least preserved for uh, something...

I never saw him mistake a mustard green for a turnip green. Also loved watermelon.
I had an airedale when I was little that loved tomatoes! Such a good dog. I do love dogs but I find my life is more conducive to cats. DH and I both work outside the home, often long hours. The kitties are a bit more tolerant of this. Right now I've got three of my own and four foster babies. I live in a city where we have a tremendous feral problem so I work with a group that does TNR (trap-neuter-release). I'm not so good at the release part. Two of my three are ferals. They were a bit older and harder to adopt (and I'll admit I got rather attached) so I kept them. Sweet, sweet kitties, though. I've got four baby kittens that I'm looking to adopt out right now and another stray I'm luring in. My neighborhood is stray cat central.

There seems to be a bit of debate about indoor vs. outdoor. Since I'm doing the foster thing I'm looking into an outdoor kitty run. Best of both worlds for the fur babies. I live in a downtown area so it's too dangerous for them to wander around but I think they'd like the fresh air and amusement.

The Airedale mailing list I help run is replete with stories of the varied treats that Airedales eat (including the pruning of tomatoes fresh from vine).

I have two of them (Airedale Terriers; not tomato vines):

Oscar:

and Maggie:
http://www.parknmeter.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=71

and I can't present them without presenting the late Monty (my "Heart dog", and the best dog ever):
http://www.parknmeter.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=68

I can't imagine being without an Airedale anymore.

Cheers,
Marc

Every loved pet is beautiful! Or cute depending on it's disposition.

I never ever thought I would pay such an absurd price for a cat, but as I've said before the hybrids are much easier on my allergies and giving up cats is just as impossible for me as giving up tea or books. We were lucky and during the interview process the breeder got really excited that my husband works with computers so they cut a nice deal in exchange for him cleaning up their virus problem. I still think a lynx point (light tan with some red) Siamese mixed up with a light tabby pattern is the most beautiful cat combination ever and I have met several in shelters, but sadly anything remotely Siamese makes me break out in hives and my eyes swell shut so I can only look.

Slite, if you like the Norwegian Forest cat, which is most impressive, you may find a Pixie Bob of interest. It is a fairly new hybrid breed, and started as Bobcats that came down into the residential areas of Seattle, WA ended up breeding with housecats and the some of the results are quite startling. I have not met one yet, but my niece thinks they are wonderful (and also easy on her allergies like my Bengals). One of the founders of the breed is at www.pixiebobs.com. Be sure to look at the Gallery pictures for the best examples.

Airdales are cool dogs! And very good pictures, youz got mad skillz! I'd link to my gallery if not for the fact that my pictaking skillz leaves somewhat to be desired.

I'm under the curse of digital SLR's ...

"Hey! I can take a gazillon pictures and post them on the web! Doesn't cost me a thing!"

So, I've gone for quantity instead of quality ... sorta

A friend of mine pointed the pixiebobs out to me the other day. Mainly because she has a cat called pixie and a Basset Hound called Bob ... So she found it quite funny

That is very amusing! Personally I would not prefer a Pixie Bob simply because some of them look too much like a full-blooded bobcat. My Bengals are a touch exotic looking, but they don't look like the hunters that live in the woods near my in-laws' house...

And though I have not said so before, your dog and puppy are beautiful. You must have caught them when the puppy was almost ready for a nap for him to look so calm!

Actually, he was always like that. On that picture he is 8 weeks old, now he is 6 months, but still a very laid back dog and not "exciteable" like most other puppys. It's a breed thing... Bernese is a very calm and easy going race.

On the puppy-class we are attending everyone is amazed that when the other puppies go haywire and run around in circles, Max just sits next too me and looks at them. And whenever there is a break in the class, he always lies down and more or less goes to sleep... Bernese style (On their back, legs pointing everywhich way... also a breed thing, they all sleep like that very often)

you should take a picture of that !! (and post it here !) it must be so funny. i love it when dogs and cats sleep in odd positions, they always seem to be comfortable no matter how physically impossible it looks...
