Issues getting an Aura HD

In the past 2 month I have gotten, and had to return over a dozen Aura HD's through Best Buy and a local Indie store because of really bad pinhole issues. I am getting a bit frustrated. Especially as this one is a gift for someone in May. I am curious as to what one needs to do to get an Aura HD without screen flaws.

Aura HD don't typically have pinhole issues. The 6" Aura had a noticable rate of pinholes (along with the Paperwhite) when it first came out, but you shouldn't need to go through a dozen to find a good one. Either they got a really bad batch or they're recycling the same ones back to you. I'd try another store or branch.

Maybe pinhole isn't the right word. I have been loading an all black image of 1080 x 1440 and turning on the light at 100%. What I and the service rep see is light showing though what appear to be small cuts in the light layer. I went through Third Place Books entire stock about a month and a half ago, and now Best Buy really seems to be my only option where I live. They have been opening the Aura HD's as my order comes in, and looking at them with me, and then promptly returning them. I am going through 1 to 2 a week, trying to find one that isn't damaged like this. It is frustrating, and I do wish I knew how to get this addressed.

Pinholes are far to common, but I don't think I have heard of anyone going through more than three or four. And I haven't heard of the problem you describe. Do you have photo that shows it?

Why?

If it's not a problem while actually using the device - which won't ever involve staring at a fully-lit black screen - why is it a problem?

david: if I can get a good photo without a glare I will post some

meeera: We set the light to 100% in the best buy, because it is so bright in them. At home at night, my wife was seeing the glaring holes in my First HD at 5% light reading a Frank Miller graphic novel. which is what gave me the Idea of an all black image. That aside. it was bleeding through words in plain text at night, and looked like hot spots. I replaced my HD several months ago, screen still wasn't perfect. but I could cope. My wife decided she wanted one, and I am trying to get one she wont complain about for her birthday. She has far better eyes than I do. So yes, it is a problem. I apologize for the long rambling answer to your simple question.

Today Best Buy had another Aura HD in, and this one had 6 pinholes in the light layer. and what appeaerd to be a 3 mm horizontal line of pinhole bleedthrough in the light layer, they immediatly took it back as a return. I have lost count now of how many defective screens I have gone through. I really wish I knew why there is such a run of flaws coming through all the Aura HD's being shipped to Washington.

David: I appologize I was not able to get a photo there was just too much glare.
