We have two seasons in the Washington DC area; August and Winter. And Winter is fast approaching.

My favorite DC Winter cartoon shows a couple in a car with DC license plates and the woman is saying to the man, "Oh look Harry, a snowflake. Quick, hit the brakes and skid into a ditch!"

It's currently going 10am and is 24C, and rising. I think there's some pool time in my future (after mulching palm fronds and pruning bamboo).

I keep sending them to Valerie, but he keeps sending them back with a note saying "FIGHT THE SQUIRRELS!" and with a small basket of funny-smelling acorns. I ate one of the latter, and saw Elvis, with wings and a tutu, flying through a tangerine sky catching flutterbies in an empty KFC bucket while singing AC/DC's TNT and backed by a chorus of electro-slide-ukuleles. I'm thinking of making a liqueur out of them (the acorns, not the ukuleles). I suspect Valerie might have ethical standards or some related psychological aberration.

And, more on point, we had our first night of freezing weather here earlier in the week. It was the coldest night on record (for this early in the year).

So, I guess it's going around.

Here in florida it was 55 F in the morning; felt like spring in Belgium.
I heard last time the weather was that cold around here was in 1958
