I have no interest in convincing anyone to agree with my opinion. If people want to believe otherwise, that's on them... doesn't affect me in the least.

But that is for an ebook, not an audiobook.

I still don't "get it." I usually "get it" by now. Is there anything to be got here?

Good one.

Reminds me of this:

In a 2012 presentation, Mr. Johnson, then still Penney's CEO, said the company was selling fewer than one out of every 500 items at full price.

No one said they are evil.*

Do they treat their employees as well as Google, Costco, and Overstock.com?

No.

Do I often want to read the books they publish?

Taste vary, but not me personally.

Do I think their having a big market share is good for literature?

Nope. Too much risk they will use their market power to squeeze the publishers who release most of the books I like reading.

Are they evil?

No.

Mine was meant to show that Amazon is not evil. Mine was meant to show how companies always try to make it look like you got batter deal than you did.

Yes ebook, isn't that what the OP bought?

Amazon does tell you it's less expensive to purchase both than the audiobook alone. $13.98 vs $16.95.

But apparently, when they used the terminology "save" they evilly implied that it would be less money for the package deal than for the ebook alone. At least, I think that is the lesson here.

No, not really. The OP has simply misunderstood Amazon's offer. OP purchased an ebook, and Amazon gave him the option to purchase the audiobook of the same title at a discounted price.

The OP became confused because though the audiobook is at a heavily discounted price, the ebook itself is not discounted. Thus, the OP believes that it is deceitful for Amazon to use the word "save".

A simple misunderstanding.

That is a challenge sometimes (depends on communication skills and the audience....) but the real challenge is FORMING opinions worthy of convincing others of their merit!

The OP bought the ebook. They were questioning the bargain of purchasing the audiobook version, along with the ebook. Based on the original post, it doesn't appear that they had intended to even consider the audiobook version before getting the notice of it being available for a reduced price until after they had purchased the ebook version.

Quote:
"Now that you own the Kindle book, you can add the professional narration for $3.99 to switch between reading and listening without losing your place.
List Price: $29.95
Reduced Price: $3.99
You Save: $25.96 (87%)"

Errr... Except you can't get this offer if you did not buy the book, so the "you save" tag is completely bogus.
