I've added a column to my shelving options that gets assigned a value based on the date that the book was added to calibre. This way I end up with a series of shelves ZZ_Added_2014_02, ZZ_Added_2014_03 etc.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry to hear about the Mini. Hope you find another, if you're looking. My guess is collections menu processing is probably done on the fly rather than maintaining a list so coupled with the whole ever growing database it probably takes a while to create it. It'd be nice if they wised up, processed the chunk necessary to display the first page and did the rest in background as needed. I'd guess they are processing the whole list first for some reason, probably to re sort it, if there is a big delay. A linked list of indices could be left in place from the last time it was sorted and only require manipulation of recently added titles, if they weren't inserted as they were processed. The resulting overhead in storage would be minimal considering how large that internal db already is... but then they may be limited to the routines already written to access the db which may be clunky or require them to process it all at once... There are advantages to writing your own code vs. depending on a suite of functions provided by people who never envisioned your special needs. THIS IS A GUESS AND MAY SHARE THE SAME TENUOUS CONNECTION WITH REALITY THAT MANY ASSUME I MIGHT... ;-) Last edited by TechniSol; 03-25-2014 at 12:48 AM. |

New HD (replacement from Kobo just arrived) just finished the initial desktop setup and loading my Kobo-bought books, and I have the same no Sort option on Collections that I had with my old HD. Will edit the conf file as davidfor advised before, but I thought I'd leave a copy of the untouched file before I used Calibre for the first time, in case it helps nail down where the bug/feature is happening. Spoiler:

Ugh, is it just me or is there a problem with the "jump to page" fuction? On my KT, I touch the screen to bring up the menu, then touch the double arrow button, and the whole thing freezes. I'm trying to access my recipe in my cookbook (made in LibreOffice Writer then converted to epub with Calibre). I want to jump to page 1 (the index) so I can then tap the recipe to go straight to the page. Worked last time I tried, but must have updated since...

@davidfor - thanks for the Sort Collections fix. I have that function, which I didn't even know was out there. Makes me wonder what other functions I am missing without even realising it... |

Class 10 cards usually have worse random access times than class 4 or 6 except for the ultra or extreme variations. SD-cards are normally optimized for linear reads and writes like they are needed for video recording and high resolution photos. Regards Aydan | |

I have an issue with one of my Glo's. Every time I connect it to calibre, several of the books on the device get reset to "new" and all reading progress is lost. What could be causing this? Database? The same books are on my Mini (running 2.8.1) and this doesn't happen). Ok I think it is the device database. So I should log out and log back in to fix it, yes? First, just check that the time/date/timezone is set correctly on the Glo. Strange things like this can happen if the device's clock is wrong.
