I would be happy to help you with this. If you PM me. I can do a webex into your PC if needed to walk you through it.

I've had an occasion with Fictionwise where, out of a 3 book series, 2 were in my required mobi format ist and last, and the middle book was only available in e-reader....crazy,
FW were unable to help so I had to go to BoB...

I've seen this too. An example of this is book 5 (of 8) of the Southern Vampire Series "Dead as a Doornail." All the other books are available in multiple secure formats, but book 5 is not available (from Fictionwise) in mobiformat.

When I checked on mobipocket.com & BoB they both have it, but here's the thing: for whatever reason, the mobiformat is SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive than the other formats. BoB offers it in Adobe PDF, Lit & ereader formats for $7.99 (list price before savings). It then offers the Mobiformat separately for $22.95 (again, list price).

When I emailed Fictionwise about another book with similar circumstances they responded that it "due to a pricing dispute" (or something similar) they were not offering the mobiformat at this time.

Does anyone know what is up with this? In the above example books 6 & 7 are both "paperback" priced. Did the distributer or publisher or ??? just forget about #5 or ???

thanks
Vito

I got interested in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series after my dentist recommended them. 1 to 10 and 12 and 13 are available as ebooks but no 11. Makes no sense at all to me.

I can understand when a physical shop sells out of a book but they'd never print a series and leave one book out, so why do it with e-books?

Sounds like crazypants stuff that everyone is baffled about. Almost like a CEO or three has to get a clue and start cracking heads to get it organised. The first part of that being the problem. ;-)

It looks like there are 3-4 different publishers. Probably someone else has the rights to 11.

I have never bought Sony secured books in Fictionwise so I do not know if they are protected PDF’s (and those can be a problem for the 505 screen) or protected ePub files (who would work well).

Fictionwise does not specify in their help pages.

Maybe someone with experience of buying and using them can step in and clarify.

You also get ADE (adobe digital editions) for adobe formats there and at BoB. The description of the format may not actually indicate which you get (I've ordered a few ADE and gotten PDF, for example).

They don't sell Sony secured books. They do sell secured PDF, which can be read on a Sony Reader, and DRM-free LRF (the Sony format).

FW sells what they call 'Secure Adobe' books (or Secure Adobe Reader). These are PDF's. They don't sell any epub books at all. They also haven't added any new Adobe DRM'd books to their store since January 2008.
