Back in the MS-DOS/Win3.X/Win9.X days using the FAT filesystem, cross linked files were a problem CHKDSK/SCANDISK would "fix" for you.

Under Unix/Linux and NTFS, links are a feature, though Windows doesn't expose the capability by default. You need optional Microsoft or third party tools to use it. I like Link Shell Extension for the purpose.

It means he is taking very sensible precautions to make sure that the Current Occupant leaves on time....

(and can we please keep Pshrynk's flings out of this.)

Oh, and has anyone seen the election material and custard pies flying about?

There was a disruption at the Democratic Party rally last night, but that may have been just the usual food fight that always breaks out at such things.

Oh, and I just go permission from a farmer friend to use her husband's corn fields as the test facility for my trebuchet when I build it!

What are you going to shoot? I've heard of pianos and dead cows ..... but pumpkins or other melons sounds like the most sane fun. If sanity is a consideration.

Could be worse. I ran across a guy who built a black powder mortar that fired bowling balls.

might i recommend episode 14 of series 3 of Northern Exposure for your viewing pleasure, pshrynk. i think you'll like it. "It's not the thing you fling. It's the fling itself."

full quotation :
Chris: “I've been here now for some days, groping my way along, trying to realize my vision here. I started concentrating so hard on my vision that I lost sight. I've come to find out that it's not the vision, it's not the vision at all. It's the groping. It's the groping, it's the yearning, it's the moving forward. I was so fixated on that flying cow that when Ed told me Monty Python already painted that picture, I thought I was through. I had to let go of that cow so I could see all the other possibilities. Anyway, I want to thank Maurice for helping me to let go of that cow. Thank you Maurice for playing Apollo to my Dionysus in art's Cartesian dialectic. And thanks to you, Ed, cause the truth shall set us free! And Maggie, thank you for sharing in the destruction of your house so that today we could have something to fling. I think Kierkegaard said it oh so well, 'The self is only that which it's in the process of becoming.' Art? Same thing. James Joyce had something to say about it too. 'Welcome, Oh Life! I go to encounter for the millionth time the reality of experience, and to forge in the smythe of my soul the uncreated conscious of my race.' We're here today to fling something that bubbled up from the collective unconsciousness of our community. Ed, you about ready? The thing I learned folks, this is absolutely key: It's not the thing you fling. It's the fling itself. Let's fling something, Cicely! ”

that was the inspiration for my never ending desire to have a trebuchet for myself.

It'd be fun to have a trebuchet (or an onager ) in our back garden, but the neighbours might not take too kindly to it...

that's why my friend's husband has so kindly volunteered his corn field. He may even find out about it before we show up with the trebuchet.
