Well, it is a strictly Jewish belief that it was written by G-d, isn't it? We have our own laws about what ownership means. Besides, I'm think the lunatic fringe (who would feel the compulsive need to protest things) remains firmly convinced that a public domain is a public piece of property that anyone can walk through -- they probably haven't heard of copyright yet.

According to Christianity it was "divinely inspired" meaning it was the brainchild of Moses. Who has been dead for a lot longer than 70 years.

It's a good thing that the bible wasn't written by Enoch. According to the book of Hebrews 11 v5 he is still alive:

By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: "He could not be found, because God had taken him away." For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.

I do. A very nice kindle KJV. The verses are a daily prayer sort of idea. A verse to meditate upon for the day.

Yeah, but he'd have quite a task proving that he was Enoch wouldn't he. I mean they didn't print up ID cards back then and it's not like he'd be able to provide witnesses to prove who he was either.

Both were allowed to go to Heaven without passing through the intermediate stage of dying; that is not the same thing as still being alive, at least in this context. It is questionable how exactly this is to be understood.

Elisha, on the other hand, also never died but in his case, according to Scripture, he intercedes in all kinds of ways throughout Jewish history, and travels to and from Heaven often enough that they probably had to install a revolving door.

But I don't think he would bother himself with anything as petty and earthly as this.

The Bible is public domain: if the translation is old enough. If you were to get a hold of Moses' stone tablets, you could copy the text all you wanted. My copy of the Epic of Gilgamesh is copyrighted, although the original text is public domain. I'm free to run the ancient Babylonian text into Google Translate if I want.

The point being made is that if you believe that the Bible is written by "God", and that "God" is not dead, then no matter how old it is, it's still under copyright in all countries with a "life+x years" copyright term.

It would be in the public domain in the USA, which has a very strange copyright system.

Ah, but the Bible was written long before copyright existed, and thus would have entered the public domain many centuries ago. And even after copyright existed, for a long time, copyright was a fixed period with a possible extension, the Life+X years came much later.

I think it also depends on which country you are in. What may be legal in one country may be illegal in another. And I don't mean that as in what is in the Public Domain or not, though that can vary from country to country as has been pointed out in other threads in the past. Just as some countries have anti-stalking laws and some probably don't I imagine sending several 1000 text messages to another as this man did/is doing may be against the law in some countries and not (as yet) in others. I still think it's a unique way to get back at someone who has apparently defrauded you though.
