I confess, I haven't read any of his books yet, but he's definitely on my list for celebrity dinner guests. Funny, intelligent, and thoughtful. Plus, who _wouldn't_ like to have dinner with Jeeves???

Yes, it fit so well with the character. That's what made the book so real to me. In spite of what was happening, the naturalness of his expression made it believable while I was reading it.

A very enjoyable Honorverse. Not too many infodumps. And it ties in nicely with the Shadow of Freedom.

[EDIT]Hmm… I seem to have forgottent to note reading Night & Demons by David Drake. This is an expanded version of Balefires, his horror collection. It contains all the stories in Balefires, and includes four new stories, "The Land Toward Sunset", "The Waiting Bullet", "Dragon, the Book" and "Codex"

Excellent, as expected from David Drake.

Next up: Climbing Olympus by Kevin J. Anderson. My earliest non-read bought ebook, from May 2004. (I intend to get through all my bought, unread books from 2004 this year.)

I've enjoyed his autobiographies very much - so candid - and also recommend trying his fiction as well. Just wish he'd write more of them.

Just finished "The Wagers of Sin" by Robert Asprin and Linda Evans. A Baen purchase from long ago. This is the second in the excellent "Time Scout" time travel series. Definitely recommended.

Just finished Robert Conroy's "Libery:1784", an alternate history of you-know-what. It seemed like a plausible turning.

Hey!! Let's get some action going! What are we reading?

Reading Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. Loving it so far.

Just finished Burglars Can't Be Choosers by Lawrence Block. This is the first in a series of books he wrote back in the late 70's and 80's. It was very good.

His protagonist is a burglar but a gentleman which made for an interesting read. Several turns I did not see coming.

All the Bernie Rhodenbarr books are great fun, as well as the short stories. My favourite Block series.

I just finished The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey.

In general, I liked it a lot, although I think it helped I read it now and not last year (it was one of last year's most hyped new Young Adult releases) as it's neither as ground-breaking nor brilliantly original as the hype claimed. It is a pretty decent post-alien-invasion/apocalyptic YA book, although I could have done without the romance, or rather the specific way it was handled.

Agreed. Quite fun. Light and short, but fun.

Add me to the list of Gentleman Burglar Bernie fans. Not only are the books fun, but Bernie has interesting conversations. I suspect Block saves up all the fascinating trivia he comes across and gives it to Bernie to discuss. Not even Matt Scudder or Keller (other Block series) are as witty and sophisticated. I read The Burglar Who Counted Spoons (the latest in the series) earlier this month. It was great fun and increased my store of interesting trivia considerably.

After the disturbing Introductions by C. L. Stone that I just finished, I need a light-hearted book so I picked Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally. The first chapter is already meeting my expectations

Just finished reading (for the first time) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Much preferred the book over the movie. Moving on to an old favorite, Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey

Currently reading "The Monkey's Voyage: How Improbable Journeys Shaped the History of Life" by Alan de Queiroz, the subject is biogeography and the dispersal of species. The author is very well read both within his speciality (evolutionary biology) and outside, and the book in very readable.
