I upgraded from ebookwise 1150 to Jetbook Lite for better formats. I upgraded to Kindle Keyboard because I'd always wanted a Kindle, and it was finally in my price range. I upgraded from that to the Paperwhite 1, which I wished I'd kept instead of trading in for the PW2. But now I've switched to Kobo. Whether or not I will buy a newer Kobo model remains to be seen. I like the ones I have. I may get the Aura later this year, just to try it out.

I upgrade devices based on new technology or functionally, IF that new tech or function is actually a noticeable improvement, taking into account how I use the device.

I still use my first Kindle, and don't yet see a good reason to replace it.

I have bought a couple of other readers as backups, but not because of their technology. I bought the Kobo to have an epub reader, and the Nook because it was cheap. |

I had a Sony Reader for about three years, then I upgraded to a Kindle Paperwhite while the Sony was still fully functional. It was an excellent upgrade for me, I'm much happier with the Paperwhite for a number of reasons.

I typically upgrade my phone every three years (although if a bigger iphone comes out this fall, it will be challenging to wait that long...) and my computer every five years. I have never upgraded our TV since buying a flat-screen about eight years ago. I guess that's why the TV business is tough! eP |

I updated to my Kobo Aura HD due to the features (larger screen, insane resolution, awesome light) from my Kobo Touch (which was still pretty good, mind you.)

It was just a coincidence that I lost the Touch the same day I ordered the Aura... |

This is an interesting topic as most people (me included) might say that they need to justify upgrading. When Palms were big, I got a cheap one mostly to hold contacts. Then they upgraded to a device with an SD card, which I had to get for ebooks. They still had the best ereader software I have ever seen. Then, of course, they improved to include a camera and finally the TX with wi-fi. All good devices. Than along came HP to buy them out and I haven't been able to use it since. Fortunately, Sony came along with the PRS-505 and it needed no improvements. Well they did anyway and now Kobo has them. I prefer reading ebooks on the Tablet anyway and I have upgraded that 3 times. All justifiable, of course!

I upgraded from an N1E to a Simple Touch due to battery issues. Unless it dies my next upgrade will be on the fall to capitalize on new technology. So I guess I fall into both categories.

I bought a Kobo mini to replace a PRS350 which I had sold to a friend who desperately wanted one thinking I could just buy another. Not that easy and I saw the mini so I got it. Not an upgrade but good enough to use on the bus.

Bought an Aura HD because I thought I would try a frontlight. Rarely use the HD, don't hate it but certainly not an upgrade. Then the Sony T3 went on sale pretty cheap and I had Future Shop gift cards left over from Christmas so I bought it. I am as pleased with it as I could be. Not saying it is perfect but pretty darn close IMO. Doubt I will buy another for a while, but if I do, well there are far less effective ways to spend money. Helen |

I'm trying to get off the upgrade merry-go-round. I haven't upgraded my iPad Mini to the Retina Mini yet, and this is unusual for me. When the PW3 comes out, I will upgrade to that. As far as my other ereaders, I'm trying not to upgrade until the old one dies.
