Well I was kidding about the book club bit, seeing as we have at least two or three on the go at any one time . But a thread specifically for The Martian might be fun.

Isn't there already one https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=206819 or does it specifically have to be in the bookclub section(I rarely go in there) anyhow after so many good reports it's on my wishlist waiting for a big kobo code.

Well spotted - hadn't seen that. Guess I'll join in once I've read it. I'm not going anywhere near before that, for fear of spoilers (been caught out on that one before ).

Thanks for that, and "The Martian" has just jumped to the front of my TBR list.

I just started 'The Martian,' and hate to put it down! Very refreshing style!

Just finished "And Then There Were None" (original title "Ten Little Niggers") by Agatha Christie. This was her 34th book, and was originally published in 1939.

Ten people are invited to spend a week on a remote island off the Cornish coast. One by one they are murdered, but who is the murderer?

This is a masterpiece of crime fiction, and arguable Christie's best novel - it's certainly the one she was most proud of. A superb plot, and I bet nobody can guess "whodunnit"!

Highly recommended.

My favorite Christie novel. I rarely reread books but I won't mind with this one.

And that was fun too.

And now for Cauldron of Ghosts by Eric Flint and David Weber, the latest in the Honorverse side plot series.

...which is rapidly becoming the main sequence. The Alignment's taken center stage pretty quickly.

Just finished "Dance of the Reptiles:Selected Columns" by Carl Hiaasen, a selection of his columns since 2000, richly peopled with rapacious developers and imbecilic legislators, and other assorted Florida fauna. I've had his "Bad Monkey" on my TBR for some time. I'll have to move it up in the queue, if his fiction is anything like his opinion pieces, I expect it to have a rich streak of very black humour.

I haven't read his columns but if you like black humour then "Bad Monkey" will not disappoint.

I loved this book. I loved it so much that I decided to read all the other books written by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (I can't put an accented O). But it took me years, literally, to read the first 20%-30%. After that I finished the book within one week.
However, from what I can see here and there, this book is either liked very much or strongly disliked.
To each its own

Right now I'm reading Introductions by C. L. Stone. More than 50% into it and not much is happening. There are also many typos. Yet I would like to know where all of this is going to, so I'll hold on until the last page. Good thing it was a freebie.
