Just finished "And Then There Were None" (original title "Ten Little Niggers") by Agatha Christie. This was her 34th book, and was originally published in 1939. Ten people are invited to spend a week on a remote island off the Cornish coast. One by one they are murdered, but who is the murderer? This is a masterpiece of crime fiction, and arguable Christie's best novel - it's certainly the one she was most proud of. A superb plot, and I bet nobody can guess "whodunnit"! Highly recommended. |

Just finished "Dance of the Reptiles:Selected Columns" by Carl Hiaasen, a selection of his columns since 2000, richly peopled with rapacious developers and imbecilic legislators, and other assorted Florida fauna. I've had his "Bad Monkey" on my TBR for some time. I'll have to move it up in the queue, if his fiction is anything like his opinion pieces, I expect it to have a rich streak of very black humour.

However, from what I can see here and there, this book is either liked very much or strongly disliked. To each its own Right now I'm reading Introductions by C. L. Stone. More than 50% into it and not much is happening. There are also many typos. Yet I would like to know where all of this is going to, so I'll hold on until the last page. Good thing it was a freebie. | |
