Sorry? I don't recall saying I was an expert on Kindles. But I have used them a lot with my family and friends. I have spent HOURS trying to get books on in the arrangement they wanted. Even with Calibre I still do not find it simple. I guess if I had an expert around at those times, things would have been a lot simpler for me.

Thanks a lot friends. As i was out of town so was not able to check the website. Your discussions, suggestions and informations are really enlightning. I heartly thank you all for providing me with such nice info regarding the gadgets. But i am still stuck at the same point. I wanted to receive information for a particular model that you guys can suggest me to buy. I just placed my points in front of you to get the best guidance from you and then can decide on a final model to go for.
According to you all now here comes the choice in 6" to 8" category. Lets finalize among these : Kindle paperwhite 6" Kobo Aura HD Sony e-reader Nook Please suggest and let me finalize among these 4 ![]() |

I have a Kobo Aura HD and a Sony T3. For me the Sony is the clear winner. Not perfect but a far more reliable polished product. I read a lot and I like a fair selection of books at my disposal. Both Sony and Kobo allow this, but the Kobo is very slow opening shelves/collections. Same books, same collections. Sony 6 seconds, Kobo 1 minute 55 seconds.
The Sony does not have a built in light, which is not a priority for me. Also does not have constant software glitches and inconsistencies. Nice size, nice feel, nice screen, great reader. I do use my Kobo mini for traveling on the bus, and the Kobo Aura at least once a month. They are okay. Good Hardware and have one feature I wish I had on the Sony. Consistent font size without changing it per book. The Sony has at least 10 features I would like to see on the Kobo. SO I would recommend Sony, but I think you would be not too unhappy with any of your options. Helen |

From what I have read here and around the web, Nook is not a good choice as they seem to be not offering much support and may be getting out of the reader business. Kobo seems to have a lot of trouble with firmware not working properly. So if you want the best, Kobo is probably not it. I have had 2 Sony readers, PRS 505 purchased in 2007 and more recently the PRS T2. I have been thoroughly pleased with my Sony readers. I still love my T2, but I now want a model that includes front lighting. Sony does not offer a front lit model (and is no longer selling in the US) so that led me to search for other models. In my search for a front lit model. I chose the Kindle PW2. They seem to have the most reliable product by far for what I am looking for. I don't have my PW2 yet, but I did get to try a PW1 in a local store and it seems to perform well. So if you want a light, I would choose the PW2. If the light is not important, the Sony or the Kindle would be good options. |

Just a note, I'm not picking on you here, but you brought up some good points

FWIW I found the DX to start slowing at a lower number than my older K2??? but so it goes. That being said would having an SD card full of 10,000 books or articles be 100x worse? Quote:
Back to the original question The Kobo seems to fit your choice the best but I don't have any experience with it myself. I found the DX to be a little large and it feels as heavy as my Ipad 2 with its case on but the large screen and button placement is worth the trade off. Just my 0.2 |

Sony's PRS-T3, (and T2 and T1) also have SD slots. They seem to be one of the best -- mainstream -- 6" eReaders for PDF. (At least that's what the reviews show -- I don't know a whole lot about PDFs on E-Ink readers.)

The iPad Retina Mini has a battery life of about 12h of usage if used mainly for reading and web browsing.

I have two friends with Kobo Aura HDs. They frequently lockup - need a pin reset. Not a big issue as nothing is lost, but is perhaps an indication of firmware issues.
