adding another dictionary

I have a Paperwhite 1. I am reading a book (in English) that is peppered with Spanish words so I would like to have a Spanish-to-English dictionary. On my Sony reader, there were a lot of foreign dictionaries pre-installed and you could just choose one. But I just checked and there are only the two English dictionaries on the Kindle. How do I get another one on there? Do I have to purchase the Spanish-to-English dictionary or does Amazon make one available for free? If I purchase one, do I just load it like a regular book, and then it will be available for me to choose as a dictionary? Thanks for any help, eP |

You can select a default dictionary for each language on the Kindle. It comes supplied with a very good Spanish dictionary. A Spanish dictionary with its definitions in Spanish, that is - not a translation dictionary. The Kindle will use the appropriate dictionary for a book according to the language metadata defined for that book. |

I am looking for a translation dictionary. So I am looking for guidance about HOW I add another dictionary, and also recommendations for free or paid Spanish-to-English dictionaries if anyone has experience with them. Thanks, eP |

If it's not installed on your Kindle, you'll have to download it from your cloud. Quote:
There's one free Spanish-English dictionary that you can download here. Amazon also offers a limited number of bilingual Kindle dictionaries, for example, a Spanish-English dictionary by Collins.

Have you searched for Spanish dictionaries in the Kindle Store? There appear to be a number available. You install them like any other Kindle book, and then select as a dictionary in the Kindle's options. |

Thank you very much, I will definitely try a free one first. I'm not looking to learn Spanish, just look up a few words! eP |

Also, with the latest update, if you have a Spanish English dictionary on the device you can select that for lookup from the popup definition dialog.

as far as installing them... no need to do anything but add them.. just make sure you don't email them as they won't work... as in not appear as a dictionary
