I think that ties in with why so many people hated the last book. There seems to be a good deal of projection going on, with people wanting Katniss to stand up and take charge...but that's just not who she is. She's a fundamentally reactive character, and in the last book her shell shock combines with that to pretty much turn her into a zombie. I get why the people who want her to rise up dislike that, but I found it totally in-character and realistic. After the end of book two, I don't blame her for shutting down...

I didn't have the same reaction to Katniss that I guess some people have. Yes, she is flawed but we all are and I was able to empathize with her. I just started Frank Delaney's Ireland, in which a wandering storyteller regales his hosts with tales of their forgotten past. Last edited by LovesMacs; 03-12-2014 at 04:23 PM. Reason: + la |

I am stuck at about 33% into The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, so far I just haven't gotten engaged in it. How much longer before it begins to pick up the pace? Or should I quit now and move on? There was so much talk about this that I wanted to read it (without looking deep into the plot or anything to avoid spoilers), but now I am not sure if I want to continue.

Hey!! Let's get some action going! What are we reading?

I haven't read it so I can't answer your question however I have read that a lot have quit reading it because of its slow pace. If I recall correctly, there were some who said that the pace sort of picks up after the first 100 pages or so. Since you've read 33% of the book, I'm guessing you've already read more than 100 pages, right? If I were you, I would just quit. |

I'd agree. There are parts I had to skip over, but ultimately, I very much enjoyed all three books and was glad I'd read them. They were the first three books I read on my first Kindle.

Just finished The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion based on a reco from BelleZora, who never gets it wrong, and it was a very funny read.

I found one of them when reading during lunch. Yuck. I will keep going, but probably not too much further if it doesn't get better soon.

I have a pretty low tolerance for excess violence, especially for certain forms of it. But I have an almost unlimited tolerance for the supposed victim turning the tables. As I said above - I was quite glad to have read these three books, and regret that there can be no more. (And yes, I know the publisher is doing more, but I have zero faith that they will be as good or as interesting. Plus, I'm less than impressed by his business practices and the whole mess that is Larsson's estate and literary legacy. ) So my suggestion would be to stick with it. |

I'm in the middle of Jonathan Maberry's "The Extinction Machine." It is another fine Joe Ledger novel so far, another global mess he gets dropped into.
