I cannot answer your question about the iPad 3, but I did find this MacRumors article on the improved speed of iOS 7.1 on the iPhone 4. Still slower than iOS 6.1.3 though, but that is to be expected.

I wonder if it will improve the safari crashes and the 'at least once a week total freeze and crash back to the apple logo' on my ipad air.

Wow, if you are having a once per week total crash, I would call tech support. My iPad mini Retina has never crashed since I bought it in November. My iPad 3 rarely crashed when I had it. I would check to see if you have a rogue app causing problems.

I must admit I figured it was a 64bit problem, its a known fact that the AIR doesn't have enough memory, I don't have any issues on my Iphone 5, or hubbys Ipad 3 as they both run 32bit, and have more free memory to run the apps.

Safari constantly reloads if i have more than one sesson open and as i said regularly the ipad freezes completly and crashes to the black screen with the white apple logo. Its hard to work out if its a rouge app as i have tons of low memory reports in settings.

An occasional Home screen crash bug has been fixed.

I think your very lucky. Any Google search will show it's a big issue. But each device is unique based on its apps and usage so who knows. If it continues I may well pop into an apple store, I'll see how it goes.

I was having apple logo crashes daily on my iPad Air. Haven't had one since getting the update yesterday morning.

Even though the iPad Air and iPad mini Retina share the same general specs, they don't share all the same parts. So I hope 7.1 fixed whatever was crashing the Air. The mini doesn't seem to have had the issue with crashing.

That's good to know. I've still got apps crashing, my banking one and the Daily Mail mini but I know that's app related. I haven't played with Safari yet.

Just installed on my Retina Mini. I don't really notice any difference, except that "Siri" now has a choice of male or female voice, which is nice (previously it was always a male voice).
