What don't you like about Windows 8.1. I like it a lot - a significant improvement over Windows 7. MUCH faster to boot up, and generally slicker all round.

Generally I have found that people who have used 8/8.1 for a month tend to like it.

That's not always the case and it's not perfect, but most people seem to base their opinions on hearsay. I see here that yet again somebody was quick to say how much they hate it but not so quick to tell us why.

Activity Based Management.

I can name a few things wrong with Windows 8.1

- no start menu
- worse privacy (forces you more or less to use a cloud live account, NSA is happy)
- for almost every app you have to flush your privacy (email address, live account, ...)
- advertising

I like Windows 7 but Windows 8(.1) is for consumers without aspirations and critical thinking.

I've been using Windows 8 for over a year, and the only thing that is (almost) valid in that list is "no start menu". (Although it takes a matter of minutes to find and install a third party one if you so choose)

- I don't use a cloud live account, and have no idea why you think I'm being "force(d)" to.

- What do you mean by "flush your privacy"? Maybe I don't know what you're talking about because I don't use the built in email app or have a live account?

- What advertising are you talking about?

- You are pushed to use a windows cloud account to login while installing Windows 8. There are ways to avoid it but you have to know how. Not very privacy and user friendly
- You have to type in your email address and have a cloud account to use or update most of the Apps
- There is advertisement on the Windows 8 app dashboard

What do you mean by "Windows 8 app dashboard"? I certainly see no advertising on the Windows 8.1 Surface Pro system I'm using to type this message.

You do realize you had to set up an account and provide an email address to post here, right? To use your words, isn't that kind of thing only for people without aspiration and critical thinking?

I still don't understand what advertisements or "dashboard" you are talking about. If you are talking about live tiles on the start screen, that is dependant on the app and can be turned off.

- Hmmm...I just used my regular email account--there was no "avoiding" anything...I just typed in my email address and made up a password.

- I've downloaded a few apps, and just downloaded another one and didn't have to type in my email address. In fact, the only time I EVER have to type in my email address is when I'm logging in to the computer. In all fairness, this may be because I've only installed a couple of free card games and the free ESPN app. I just don't use many "apps" with Windows...just applications such as the full MS Office, Firefox, Adobe Acrobat (full version, not reader), and other applications that I need for my business.

- I don't know what the "Windows 8 app dashboard" is, unless you mean the store? If so, then yes...there are advertisements in the store, but then again, it's a STORE, so I would expect to see some sort of advertising there.

That is exactly the problem stated.

Not everyone wants to give their email address to Microsoft, it seems.

Hmmm, could that be... because you already gave it to them???

The implication by joblack was that you had to have a Windows Live account in order to use Windows 8. This is not true at all. Any email address will do...it could even be a throwaway address that is never used again. joblack also stated that "You have to type in your email address and have a cloud account to use or update most of the Apps" I took that to mean that you had to type in your email address every time you install or update an app. This is definitely not the case.
