edit: don't open the spoiler if you love Apple and/or Steve Jobs.

Spoiler:
First, let's just say it's now 100% sure Steve Jobs is not going back to Apple, ever. I like that, and hope Apple will be gone in 10 years. Pity. They came close in '97 already. I really don't like anything that company stands for, and if you come across as the "typical Apple user" to me, I won't like you either.

(Note: I'm not saying that I automatically dislike anyone using Apple products. I'm talking about the people that go like: "Apple is king, emperor and god of the computer world and nothing else is worth looking at, and as soon as they release a TV, a car and a washing mashine, then Samsung, Mercedes and Miele will go out of business.")

As I mentioned in another thread, some time ago, a colleague of mine ones said:

"Why should I think? Steve Jobs is doing that for me, all the time."

(In my not so honest opinion, if you say something like that, you're an idiot.)

Poor guy. Must be a hard life, living with a dead brain.

But this may just be a cultural thing.
It's becoming "modern" to do this in the Netherlands as well.

"So, that latest decision by Mark really ruffled my feathers, and the others just go along with it!"
- "Heh, what?"
"You know, about the increased tax on gasoline!"
- "Oh, you mean the prime minister?"

People are calling politicians and famous people by their first names for some time, and it really gets to me.

You don't talk about the prime minister or king or any public figure by just calling them by their first names. I know a few people called "Mark" or "Willem" on the top of my head, so it confuses me.

Please stay on topic. If you don't want to participate in the thread then don't - no need to tell the world that you don't like Apple. This thread is for Steve Jobs' quotes. Anything else will be deleted.

Thanks.

That quote makes me wonder if this isn't an attempted parody of an Apple fanboy post. Or a parody of an Apple hater post within a fanboy post.

It is standard usage now to refer to people by first name in the US. A clerk will still often use Mr. Lastname. Maybe brought on by the universal "you" erasing the distinctions between formal and informal.

When referring to public figures, though, the last name alone is often used. Jobs rather than Steve. Mostly for clarity.

I can't think of a single Steve Jobs quote. I use Apple computers but Steve Jobs is not my god.

2 A lot of companies have chosen to downsize, and maybe that was the right thing for them. We chose a different path. Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.

Since Steve mcjobs moved production to China, this is seen as a good quote?

And googling the original post (OP) quote in question*, I find this to be the only place it is found on the web.

OP quote 4 is also nowhere else on the web, and thus dubious.

OP 7 is from the Whole Earth Catalog, but Jobs did utter that phrase in a Stanford commencement address while providing the correct attribution.

Guys, I'm not sure which part of "off-topic posts will be deleted" you're having difficulty in understanding, but off-topic posts WILL - as promised - be deleted.

I'm a little confused as to what's actually allowed, Harry.

Is it literally a "post only Steve Jobs' quotations and nothing else" thread? What of the OP's original mandate:

Not sure how my 1st post was off topic as it dealt with the idea of the name Steve being so generic that it's hard to say if a given quote is even by the right Steve. Especially as anyone can post anything to the net now days so that you have to wonder if so and so did say x or not. I guess that's part of the price to pay for having innovators like Mr. Jobs and his contemporaries make the changes that they did in our society though.

Everyone knows who "Barack" is, on this side of the pond anyway.

Apple isn't going away any time soon. They have a corner on the student market. Almost every post secondary student owns a macbook. When they graduate, they will take their macbook preference with them to their places of employment.

Excuse me mr. Steve but I'm afraid you haven't done your homework properly here. Or maybe you are a fan who cant stand to see your idol tarnished? My purpose is only to present fact, I'm neither for nor against jobs as a figure, but I am amused that Apple has become a fetish cult in recent years. My question is why? Here are some more quotes from Mr. Jobs...

'You know, there are many people at Apple who can buy everything that they could ever possibly want and still have most of their money unspent. I hate talking about this as a problem; people are going to read this and think, Yeah, well, give me your problem. They’re going to think I’m an arrogant little asshole.'

'If he wants to know why, just tell him I'm an asshole.'

'So, you’ve uncovered the fact that I’m an asshole. Why is that news?'

From the sound of your first post, it seemed you were the fanboi, to be honest...

If that quote is truly a Jobs quote, would you mind linking to where it was found? I'm afraid I cannot give credence to it otherwise.

Also please note, I say this as a rabid Apple-hater.

You should be careful lending credibility to quotes in books, magazines, newspapers, and, especially, internet blogs. One blogger refers to another one as a source and all of a sudden a fabrication is a fact.

Anyway, paste any of his quotes into google.com with quotation marks at each end and you will find multiple matches for the whole set of quotes. Google is your friend and you shouldn't rabidly hate anything -- it'll harsh your karma.

I just did that with number 6, and did find multiple matches, but every single one of them was from this thread. Did you find something different when you did the search?
