Look for M-Edge Nook cases on clearance.
Maybe ebay.
They made some sturdy ones that only fit Nooks.
I got four Go-Jacket models for $7 each at Radio Shack when they were clearing out their Nook inventory.

I returned my Nook Simple Touch after about four days of ownership. I loved the physical device, but the universally higher prices and worries about the future of the Nook division just made keeping it untenable.

Nope. No problems. I've been hauling it around almost since the Nook glowlight released, too. I do keep it in its case with the top closed, but I've got kids and cats, so it's not like it hasn't been tested at least a little.

Wow, I live in the boonies, in upstate New York, and had to travel less than 40 miles to see a Kobo and buy one from an independent bookstore. Not that far if you're looking for specialty items around here. All that was required was to go to Kobo's website, find the independent book sellers list and enter my zip code. A little quick armchair legwork on the phone and I found the bookseller nearest me that had them in stock. Made a little drive, bought a Glo, went nearby and had a nice lunch while upgrading the firmware just in case there was an issue, and was reading before my steak sandwich was served. That place makes great steak sandwiches!

Your mileage may vary...

Excellent advice: be sure to verify over the phone. My local "independent bookstore" (a university) finally put the Aura or Aura HD on their website in January. So I take the drive (nice and close, about 20 minutes), and all they have on display is the Glo (and an Arc, I think). I ask the associate "Do you have the latest model Kobo's", she says "those are the latest models".

I'm not willing to make a 40 mile drive to look at something I may or may not want to buy. If the indie bookstore is close to a place I am going anyway, and I have time, I will stop in. I will be going down to the shoreline for a party in a couple of weeks and according to Kobo's website there is a bookstore down there that has their products. If I have time before the party, I will stop in and look, and possibly buy one...I don't have the time or gas money, however, to make the trip solely to look at the device.

We have four Nook ST and one Nook STG in the family and we absolutely love them. I'm waiting for someone to make a newer Android e-ink tablet (with light)... so far no dice. I don't see how one can compare an iPad mini... I've owned other backlit tablets and there's a distinctly different feel of reading on eink. Otherwise I'd go back to a Nexus 7.

If you live near a Best Buy you can order the Aura or Aura HD on their website with free shipping to your house, and then return it to the Best Buy if you don't like it. I did it with the Aura, as I will never order direct from Kobo after a horrific CS experience.
