I picked up two PDFs as well, I'm not impressed as the publishers are a small independent I use a lot anyway who produce epub files. I may drop them a line anyway once the code is turned off just to ask them why Kobo only had the PDF. Luckily they are DRM free so I can convert to epub, it's just a pain to get a decent conversion.

Tried that 90 percent code in 5 different browsers: IE and Chrome in Windows 7; IE, Firefox, Chrome in Windows XP. Using Hong Kong store. Old checkout every time. Doesn't work ("that coupon has already been redeemed"). I don't see how others are getting it to work in the Hong Kong store.

I'm not interested in playing around with different countries' stores, want to stick with Hong Kong, since it's priced in HK dollars, and I use a HK dollar credit card (among many other reasons).

Any advice (other than "try India")?

Seriously try India. You don't have to change anything except putting India as your country in your settings. You can even leave your address in Hong Kong, as I left my US address and it works fine. I use a US dollar credit card and all my Indian rupee transactions went through fine. I do have a card which doesn't charge foreign transaction fees, which is nice in this situation. I am getting an exchange rate of 61.79 rupees for 1 US dollar. Most of the books I've bought are coming out to 65¢ US on my card.

Addendum: You probably only have 8 or 9 more hours to give this a try. When Kobo opens tomorrow I expect someone to notice the zillion 90% off charges made at various stores and finally pull the plug on this code.

I don't think people are getting it to work in HK. I know that Melmac posted a few pages back that he/she couldn't get HK to work. (I think he/she's using NZ instead now)

As the code only appears to be working on the new checkout sites it doesn't look like you'll be able to use it unless you do travel.

You could always try New Zealand. For months now every time I buy a book in the NZ store and use PayPal, it charges me in Hong Kong dollars. This is despite the fact I live in New Zealand and all my settings are for New Zealand. I did contact Kobo and sent them numerous screen shots etc but they had no answers.
Yesterday I was at a friends house while they bought from the NZ store and the same thing happens to them.

You can temporarily change to a country with the new checkout, then when you checkout, change back to Hong Kong and use your credit card. I don't think multiple tabs works with this method, so you may have to remove your credit card details and change countries and back again for every book you want to buy.

My Marshall Islands buddy reports a similar issue; his area gets the old checkout. However, he switched his country to the USA at the beginning of his session. Since that's a new-checkout zone, he can pull up a batch of new-checkout pages that way. Then, with all the checkout pages pulled up, he went through and switched his payment info back to Marshall Islands to complete each purchase (because each page loaded thinking he was in the US). Result: promo code works on the new-checkout pages in an old-checkout zone.
