The Ring on Her Finger by Elizabeth Bevarly - FREE (Previously pubbed by Avon)

Smashwords

Kindle

Quote:
Heiress Lucinda Hollander is in something of a bind. After being proposed to by a man in a Bozo the Clown suit—who jams a ring on her finger the size of Gibraltar and then disappears—she's accused of a murder she didn't commit and is forced to go on the lam. Although she's never touched a dust mop, never mind used one, she hides out as Lucy French, housekeeper, on an elegant estate far from the scene of the crime. Hey, she knows her way around big houses, and making floors sparkle sure beats making license plates.

She finds more than she bargained for in the servants’ quarters, however, not the least of which is Max Hogan, the car guy. He’s gorgeous and sexy, and, wow, does he know how to work with his hands. But he’s more than a little silent about his past, which makes Lucy wonder what he’s up to—and what will happen when he discovers her own secrets. Throw in a fiery nanny, a scandalous horse breeder, and a lonely little girl, and Lucy has more than enough to take her mind off her troubles. Until one of those troubles becomes falling in love with Max. How will she ever be able to put things to rights?

And how can she get that darned ring off her finger...?

Quote:
Midnight Honor is the much acclaimed historical romance based in Scotland during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745. It tells the story of Colonel Anne Moy who called out the clan for Prince Charles Stuart even as her husband, the Chief of Clan Chattan, was serving as an officer in the Hanover army. Many of the characters are based on real historical figures, although the romantic elements are purely the imagination of the author. Readers wanting an emotional romance as well as an accurate historical rendering of the period will enjoy Midnight Honor, as well as the other two award-winning Scottish romances in the author's library, The Pride of Lions and The Blood of Roses.
Amazon has it for $1.99. Don't know if it will be free or not

Fatal Mistake by Marie Force - $0.99. It's part of the Monthly Kindle Big Deal sale so it will probably stay at this price during March. Of course, I bought it when it first came out at $3.82.

This is Book #6 in Marie's Fatal series. I absolutely love this series. It's a great blend of romance and romantic suspense that gets better with every book. The set-up is somewhat similar to JD Robb's In Death series (without the futuristic elements), but there are plenty of differences, as well as very different writing styles. I read and enjoy both series, but they aren't actually that similar once you get past the fact that both feature a female police lieutenant, a yummy male lead, and a great group of supporting characters (It's a formula, but it works every time when it's well-executed ).

I agree. I really like this series. I'm up to number 5 and bought this one when it came out for twice as much.

For those that want to try the series the first 3 books are in a box set for $4.99 ($0.49 with the magic 90% Kobo code!)

Unfortunately, it's not on sale in Canada. I had to pay full price. Oh well, what the heck, it's Nora Roberts!

Here's another Smashwords freebie with code RW100

Whispers at Midnight by Andrea Parnell (Signet 1987)

Quote:
If only his kiss had been hard, brief and demanding, but it was not. It was gentle and probing, possessing, and took her breath away…

Amanda Fairfax met Ryne Sullivan when she came to take possession of the colonial Virginia plantation that was her legacy. She could see resentment burning in his dark blue eyes, yet once in his arms she could feel how fiercely he hungered for her, and how little she could resist his desires or her own. In a place where terror ruled the night and mystery cloaked each move, Amanda could not fully trust her lover or her love, for she sensed every moment of ecstasy might be her last.

Read:
  • Secrets in the Marriage Bed by Nalini Singh (C+/3 stars)
  • Bound by Marriage by Nalini Singh (B/4 stars)
  • A Christmas for Carrie (Feeling the Heat #2.5) by Alison Packard (D+/2 stars)
Started my reread of Nalini Singh's Psy/Changeling series with Slave to Sensation and Visions of Heat. It's 13 weeks until the new book comes out and there are 12 full-length books, 5 novellas, and numerous "slice of life" snippets. I figure I need to average rereading one full-length book a week so I will be ready for Shield of Winter on June 3rd

I did most of my purchases with 55/65% codes from the coupon fairy (many thanks!). So my To Buy list was depleted. Maybe it was silly, but I used the 90% code to rebuy some of the books which I had originally bought at Fictionwise in LIT format*. I resisted doing so during the last magic coupon code craze, but gave in this time (Not for all, just some. But that was more because Kobo didn't want my money and froze out my credit card. And the urge to buy more has now passed ) It's still not letting me on this morning. Maybe the code will still be good tomorrow...

Oh, I have all of them converted from when they were first purchased. The MS Reader no longer works on the DRM'd versions and I didn't bother reinstalling the converter the last time I had to reformat my computer.

Hence the reason it was probablly silly. I let the 50¢ to 77¢ couponed price blind me

Here's my damage so far. Alot was done before the 90% code appeared and all those Entangled pre-orders.
I've picked out a few more and will probably replace some paper copies . . .

Please - no recommendations today, I don't trust myself with the still lingering 90% coupon working. I have purchased books till I can't purchase anymore (that's a lie). I am happy that I was able to fill a lot of gaps that I had in some of my series.

I still have a large wish list (a lot of the books were not couponable) but I made a big dent in it this weekend. It would take 2 pages to list what I bought so I will forgo and just say it was a lot.

I didn't go hog wild on the 90% as I didn't want to lose my credit card I just got gotten but I did pick up a series I wanted and didn't want to pay $5 a piece for so it's all good.

I read:

Naked in Death by J.D. Robb (3 Stars) What a horrible way to start a series! It's was boring and slow and had very little world building and the romance between Eve and Roarke wasn't built up or build on it was just there. The mystery is too predictable and just too shocking of content that I had a hard time dealing with it.

Glory in Death by J.D. Robb (4 Stars) This book is much better than the first and we see better chemistry between Eve and Roarke. The mystery is pretty predictable. I knew who the bad guy was from the beginning.

Immortal in Death by J.D. Robb (3 Stars) The Eve and Roarke Romance is much better in this book however the mystery follows the same formula as the first and once again I knew who the bad guy was the minute she brought him in.

Some comments on this series. I am trying to like Eve but if she keeps punching Roarke who is just trying to keep her from killing over and that really bothers me. an abusive heroine is really hard to like. I really hope it stops happening or Roarke just returns the favor but I know he wont. The mysteries in book 2 & 3 are really tame compared to book one. So if anyone wants to read this series book one is almost horrible but after that it gets sooo much better and I breezed through the next two books but I am taking a break before reading book 4. I agree with the person who said reading them back to back is not a good idea and they are pretty much the same formula.

I am reading:

Cry No More by Linda Howard: I am loving this so far! Such a strong writer and the characters are just so well written. I am told this is an ugly cry book so I am prepared. I'm about 30% into it.

Eve hitting Roarke is addressed in several in the books. It doesn't bother me at all in rereads. Also, the mysteries do vary. Sometimes we get the killer's POV, sometimes we know who the killer is from the get go and it's more a procedural-type of book as to how Eve & co catch them. But some are a guessing game. I think many of the later books do have better mysteries than the earlier ones.

Okay, Kobo likes my credit card again, so I did some more shopping. I am totally blaming apesmom as I saw the new (to me) Toni Anderson title in her report
