Thats what I have a problem with. To her, its the flavor of the day. To us, its a daily need. Well, at least to me it is....shoot. I"m going to put a spin on this and hope at least it will increase the authors and books available.........because whatever she wants, she gets.........I just hope she loves Ray Bradbury, Asimov, Michener..............

Well, I'm guilty of having a "flavor of the day" as well. Right now I'm all hot about the Kindle but at some point I'll move on to something else and another message board. I'll still be using the Kindle but it will be so normal to me that I'll have room for something else to catch my eye.

Anyway, this was advertisement. Just like an actor will be conviniently invited just in time for his new movie release. If we consider this, you're right: if she's being paid to show the Kindle, why talk about anything else?
OF COURSE IT WAS AN ADVERTISEMENT. And, in fact, I specifically compared it with an actor on a publicity tour for a new movie. That is what all the talk shows are about. And, yes, I think Mr. Bezos was "invited" to appear. Ms. Winfrey does have a great deal of control over who appears on her show. If she likes a product, she is much more likely to invite someone to appear to talk about that product ... if she likes a book, she will invite an author to appear and discuss his/her book.

A publicist may get their client's name in front of the Winfreys and Lenos of the world, but those people and/or their producers, have the final say on whether or not someone is invited to appear.

I, for one, have no problem with a company doing some really savvy marketing for their products. In the case of Amazon, they are lucky in the sense that they have an individual who is so closely associated with the company. I can't think of a single individual who could speak for Sony.

Sony has always had quality associated with their products, although I have personally seen that quality lapse over the past several years, and because I find their customer service to be sub-par, so I don't purchase as many Sony products as I used to. But, getting back to marketing ... the only advertising I have seen for Sony readers are billboards in airports ... trumpeting the ability to hold something like 72 books ( ..... ummm .... is that all??).

But, really .... given that those shows are nothing but one long series of ads, naturally they don't do a blow by blow comparison of various products. It's not Consumer Reports ... it's Oprah. It expect anything more is just silly.

Greattext Transfer Protocol. It's the newest thing, but only the BEST (i.e. the greatest) web sites can get approval to use it.

I'm kidding. It's a typo.

She did actually have the Sony Reader in her magazine awhile back. I guess that means it was just a plant and not worthwhile either.

The Amazon card special ended in September - it totalled $100. I doubt you could combine offers even if it were still on.

Actually she mentioned that she'd tried a couple of others and didn't much like them. And Bezos didn't give her hers, one of her friends did (she mentioned the name).
I'm hardly her biggest fan, but watched the show to see what she had to say and how the audience would react (i.e. would they know what they were looking at - some actually did).

On the Amazon discussions page, someone else had this problems...they called Amazon and the person walked them thru, and as soon as the sale cleared, they 'added' the coupon....so they did get two.........worth a try!
