Glo Kobo Night Mode - Page 23

Anyone else tried the night-mode hack with Firmware 3.2.0? It's my favourite hack, and I'm holding off updating the firmware on my Aura HD and Aura until there's a version of it that works with 3.2.0.

I'm running it (posted before you) but there are some odd issues. I don't think it's 100% working but it does work. You just need to refresh the screen after putting it on or off.

Just installed the app on my aura. While I like the app, it is absolutely destroying my battery. Thus how do I go about uninstalling it? I used the uninstall file via the post that also include the install link (aura of course) and it is still not working.

It should have a negligible impact on battery life. I'm surprised.

It took me a few tries, because I couldn't see the .kobo folder on my macbook. But I got it to work! Looking forward to trying in bed tonight, it'll be nice to not be blinded by the crazy light.

If anyone else has problems finding the .kobo folder on a mac. Try typing the following in Terminal to show all hidden folders:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1

and then reboot your computer.

Same thing here with my Kobo Glo (model N613). Quite annoying at the beginning, as I could not figure how to get it to change. Something seems to be also wrong with the page refreshes -- I have it set to refresh every 1 page but some artifacts can still be seen...

Nice tip, but rebooting is not necessary. In the terminal app write

Code:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE && killall Finder

and hit the Return button. This will show you all hidden files in Finder immediately. With

Code:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE && killall Finder

these files will hide again.

In the terminal you can switch between the last code with the arrow up/down keys, so you don't have to type this over and over again

Page turning has become very unreliable.

Downgrading from 3.2.0 because nightmode is broken, and this plugin is an absolute must for me. Hope the developer updates it if possible.

Finally found some time to look into the new bugs

The problem with 3.2.0 is that Kobo decided that they wanted to flip the internal representation of the screen by 90° after booting up, and of course the mod was not expecting this to happen, which caused a couple of things to go wrong.

Then the battery drain on the new Aura 6': I was actually quite shocked when I measured how long a software invert took. I had forgotten to turn on compiler optimization and my code was pretty bad to begin with. So with both of these fixed, the invert is now about 40 times faster. It now takes about 5ms compared to 200ms before. (measured on my Glo) I hope this brings the battery drain down to an acceptable level.

This was only tested on a Kobo Glo with FW 3.2.0. It should work with older firmwares, but have a backup ready. The same goes for the new Aura 6'.
