can't install calibre to path of my choice

Latest calibre [1.25] is not letting me install it to c:\apps\calibre

I have tried to change path multiple times but it ends up getting installed in "c:\program files\calibre2" everytime, no matter what I do

Is it just me ?

Thanks

betavita : Possibly - I just installed the 32bit at c:\apps\calibre with no dramas (uninstalled it too, again no drama)

I assume you are using the available dialogue and not some back door kludge - if latter probably best not, use the front door - see attachment

I have seen this often happening when users haven't set their security settings correctly. Have you tried installing as administrator (right click on the installation file then select "run as administrator").

Thanks for replies.

I just noticed that this calibre setup is not asking for administrator access as it has asked in the past.

may be some windows update changed something in the system. I also don't see run as admin option in right click . for some other programs (for example virtualbox) I can see that option

Couple of questions

What version of Windows are you using?

Also have you tried logging in as administrator and installing Calibre for all users?

What are your user id privileges for "c:\"? (right click on c: in Windows Explorer select Properties and choose the Security tab)

As this is regarding the internal security of your PC, if you prefer PM me and we can post the solution for other users later on without disclosing confidential settings & information....

@betavita - Calibre ships as an .msi, VirtualBox ships as an .exe. You'll never see Run as Administrator on any .msi file.

The .msi extension (Windows Installer Package) is associated with with Windows ® Installer program (it's in the Windows sub-directories as msiexec.exe) and on my fully patched Windows install it was last changed on Nov 21 2010 at 2:24PM.

I suspect your ownership and/or permissions security settings are 'improper'. If you're in a hurry try turning UAC off, and take up a_daley's offer to help you get your security settings 'proper'.

I just used shift right click and selected install as different user and logged in as admin. now i have it in c:\apps\calibre

In 1.24 I could see the shield on calibre installer and also on advanced option when running installer but I can't see those options any more.
