Hi,
I got the Modify PI. I removed a formerly gray covered book from both the device & my computer before attempting anything. I added the book back in to Calibre. This one had no cover. I cover was successfully added when transferred to the device. I tried a 2nd book. This one also worked but transferred with a double cover (I have insert/replace) checked.) I don't see an option in Modify to get rid of the first image as there is when you use convert. Do I first have to remove the first cover & then run Modify a 2nd time to add a new one? I've pasted the log file below if that tells you anything helpful. Don't know why Modify is working while Polish does not, but that does appear to be the case in my particular situation. Someone said base code for both is the same but I don't write code so clueless in that area. Just glad it's working! I also don't know if transfer via CC instead of USB would have anything to do with the problem with Polish but simple logic tells me "no" as it makes the transfer sucessfully with Modify. As mentioned CC will always show a image, even when the one in the device bookshelf is grayed out. Have a full day today but will check back later to see if anyone has a suggestion on the double image issue I' seeing with Modify. Although, if you feel it best, I'll check with the dev of the Modify Plug In. The log from the double image tranaction is below. Thanks for your assistance. I see that's the case in Modify & I do have it checked but could not find the option to remove a bookjacket when running convert. If there is one, where would I find it?

The Quality Check plugin can "find ePub formats that have or do not have a cover that is replaceable when exporting from calibre" according to the description. If you still have problem ebooks, it might be worth seeing what this plugin finds for comparison.

So, if you uncheck Preferences->Conversion->Common Options->Structure Detection->Insert metadata as page at start of book then the artefact known elsewhere as a 'book jacket' won't be created. Its right under the check box for Remove first image. If you want to take a look at it then let us know and someone will tell you how do it, its not that its hard or a secret but... information overload... Also see bobstro's post re the Quality Check plugin, it might give us some clues ==>> https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...8&postcount=48 BR Last edited by BetterRed; 02-23-2014 at 09:41 PM. |

I suspect a book can have multiple jackets (from difference sources maybe - publisher, seller, library manager etc), so maybe calibre convert will only act on the calibre jacket, IMO there should be an option to put them at the back of the book. I wonder if the problem you have with Polish is related to the problems you had with using the 64bit version of calibre on Win8. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 02-23-2014 at 07:01 PM. |

![]() Yeah, I've seen quite a few '64bit not working' reports where the 'solution' has been to use 32bit. FWIW it will only make a difference if you need to convert very large books. My perception is that there has also been a higher incidence of cover related problems over the past couple of weeks. And like the 64bit Windows issues they are all over the place, intuition says there must be a common cause - but the symptoms vary widely. BR |

I think the more features that are added to a program, the more potential for conflicts. As you said, what works for one person might not work for another due to numerous variables. That's the reason I don't load programs & apps to my computer or other devices that I don't regularly use. I use very few Plug Ins because you never know if one thing will "step on" another. However, you're also right that whenever you start seeing problems of a certain type there is typically a common cause. It just takes a lot of patience & testing to isolate the problem. |

No, I never though you did, but I don't mind that eschwartz thought you might have did. I cut him more slack than I do others on account of he's not much older than your grand-daughter is
How's goes it with your covers? Reading to your g-d sound like a good excuse. Mine have grown up very nicely, but compared with a 4 year old... meh BR |
