Looking forward to Onyx Intl. announced 13" e-reader with stylus. Their software isn't exactly perfect either, but at least they're as clever as to know the implications of making their software open and extensible.

I can't understand people who are "investing" 700+ USD in Apple hardware which mainly for consuming movies and other timewasting applications. Whatever floats your boat. Last edited by joblack; 02-21-2014 at 11:04 AM.

I really want this device. However, I am still a bit apprehensive. The language barrier is a problem. It is magnified by the fact that the Japanese sellers explicitly state that they do not accept returns. Thus if there is an problem, such as the device being defective or damaged in shipment, I would stand to loose alot. All of this being said, there is nothing else like it on the market. Rumored devices such as the ipad pro, are now looking somewhat less competitive from my perspective. The PRO is now rumored to be around 12 inches, which is substantially smaller than the Sony. I want a device that can display letter or A4 pdfs at full size. |

Somebody rich please buy this and tell us what its like. The lack of flexible software and wide-range file format support is moronic. Sony, you make great hardware. You are a disaster.

I'm not rich, but I have just got one from amazon.jp. It is very good for pdf viewing, no cropping or reflow is needed, and its even better than reading on real books, because it is larger than most of the books. The four page mode is very handy sometimes. But it is a pitty that it does not support two page landscape mode. Aside from pdf viewing, it is also good for internet browsing, although a little slow. One more thing, the metallic back case is cold for holding in winter.

Rakuten's internet ads are starting to showcase the device. My guess is that demand is on the uptake including from foreign sources. Seems the Chinese has taken to it in droves.

Also how much time does it take to flip through ten consecutive pages (heavily annotated and without annotation), by pressing next page button and waiting for the pages to be completely seen. Last edited by markom; 02-23-2014 at 08:25 AM.

The annotated pdf can not be flattened on the dvice, the annotations are saved automatically to the pdf files, and can be saved as an entry in workspace as well. I didnt find any option to export as a sigle flattened pdf. For page turns, its about 15s for ten pages, but varies much for different pdfs. In some rare case, e.g. i have a 3000 page pdf, i takes 7s to turn a page, but it is much faster after the bookmark is removed, about 1s pageturn time. The annotations does not affect the page turn time much, i can not feel the difference. It seems to me that generally the bottleneck is the refresh rate of the screen.

Forgive an ignoramus, but what is "flatten an annotated PDF"?
