All of David Eddings series! For whatever stupid reason, they are my comfort food. I find I turn to those series when times are tough. Kinda like visiting with old friends

I've just about worn out my paper copies and I'd love to take them with me.

The Irritating thing is that while a few are available as eBooks, they've got a couple of single books out of the series, not the whole series.

Eg. Only Part 2 of the Belgaried is available, not the rest

Upton Sinclair's Lanny Budd series. Hard to find used (I think there are 11 volumes) and expensive to buy new from the print house that bought the rights.

Man that stinks! Why would a publisher do that? It seems silly to me.

Welcome to Publishing. This is just one of many inexplicable actions.

Fundamentally, some publishers "get" ebooks, some haven't quite grasped the concept, and some are being dragged kicking and screaming into ebook offering.

The best you can do is to contact publishers like that and let them know you would buy the ebook editions if they existed. The more they get the idea there's a market, the more likely they'll be to address it.

Indeed, but the problem is that most people (including me) are not going to invest much time in telling publishers how to save their business.

The couple of times I tried to Send a message to a publishing company, just finding the correct e-mail address was a pain. In the end, I just said "to hell with" and ignored it.

If there was a central place from where I could find who publishes which book, along with contact detail, I'll probably send a lot more messages.

Hmm.... That's an Idea.

How about a Wiki page with working contact details for publishers? Might be good idea to link to a list of authors published by them as well, so you can verify you're sending it to the right place.

It the risk of being unbearably retro, I might just look up the mailing address and send them a snail mail letter.

It's a good idea, and I'll see what I have that could serve as a starting point.

Now why didn't I think of that

Seriously, I'm too lazy to go that route. If the Company wants to restrict the ways in which their customers can contact them, its their problem .

The only time I'll probably be willing to go to "great lengths" as you would call it would be if I Really, really loved the book, or more likely really needed that in eBook format.

The problem that often crops up is that it is often much more difficult to find out if a legitimate eBook version is available or not, especially when Darknet Versions are easily available.

That's what I really like about Baen, that when you search for one of the books they carry, the Legal version is one of the first ones to pop up, making finding a darknet version 'inconvenient' . So the only people who are probably going to keep on searching are the ones who

a) Can't afford it or
b) Won't buy it

Both categories which will not buy one now anyway, so should not really be considered a lost sale.

Thanks. If you can get the ball rolling, more people can also contribute, and actually make Lazy people like me start sending letters.

Whether I'd do it would depend on how important the issue was to me. But old fashioned letters still might get attention where email would not.

Precisely. But before companies can address customer concerns, they need to know that have them.

Agreed, and one reason why I think Baen is very savvy in what they're doing.

No worries

I'll offer to start the page and add a few of the entries, but I'm not going to have time for the next couple of weeks. Even then, It's going to be tight till Mid December.

Still, I'll see when I get some time, and if no one's started one I'll start compiling some information and put it into the Wiki.
