They will. In fact all the collections from any Kindles owned in the past will transfer to PW2 without asking

Thank you, dordale and dsmid - though it would seem this was a bad thing for you, dsmid, it will be a good thing for me - I don't want to have to set up all of my collections again.

You will have to delete dozens of duplicate collections, though, in all probability.

While the cloud collections are more likely to cause you woes than work perfectly for you, on the plus side, you can sync non-Amazon bought ebooks if you email them to your Kindle, as by doing that you upload them to your cloud storage.

There will be duplicate collections (according to the reports, I don't have one) if you have ever deleted and recreated a collection. Every collection you ever had, even if they have the same name, even if you deleted them years ago, will come back.
There will be one nag for all books, saying WiFi is off, please connect to sync, plus an additional nag afterward if the book isn't registered with Amazon, saying it cannot be synced. 1 nag for Amazon books, including cloudloaded(=downloaded & transferred via USB). 2 nags for sideloaded personal documents. |

Re collections:
It would of course be very comfortable if one could employ a plugboard on Calibre which in the process of transfering files to your PW woudl switch title to "Author: title" and author to "tag", i.e. "Perelman: Smitten Kitchen" "cookbook" If then you sort your content by author you will have all novels, philosophy, cookbooks or whatever it is you tag in a row. The fact that you might have 32 pages to flip in your author (=tag) sorted list is no problem. You can very comfortably go to say "c" (for the cookbooks) by tapping on the pagenumber in the lower right corner, entering "c" and go. If you had collections, you would 1st have to change to the collections view and then tap "cookbook". Last edited by sheygetz; 02-24-2014 at 03:44 PM. |

You are storing it there as a back-up I suppose, but you would have to connect and sync with the Amazon server to download the book onto your Kindle to read it. And it's probably really only worthwhile doing this with your non-Amazon books if you want to sync your books between different devices (so that you can read the same book on different devices). If you just want to use it as a back-up, you'd be better using Calibre and either keeping your books backed-up on your computer or cloud storage like dropbox. That's what I do, and then the Amazon cloud storage is just an additional, automatic back-up of my Amazon books. |
