Well, the book that I can't download has a Blackberry icon. Nobody commented on my earlier observation that it doesn't show up under Books in my iOS app. It only shows up under All. I think that is strange too.

Quite strange indeed. Do you have a link to such a book's page on the Kobo store?

Thanks to Rev. Bob for replying to my question. I always download books immediately when I purchase them, so my Sony books are all on both my PC and my reader.

I will let Sony go ahead with the transfer of my account because at least that way my purchases will be on record somewhere. But I am skeptical about trying to actually buy any future books from Kobo given the download issues reported in this thread.

Don't be put off by the problems reported here. There can be issues for particular books, but people safely and successfully buy books from Kobo every day. I have purchased 330 books from them and have had exactly two mis-fires. Neither one had anything to do with a missing epub.

But you have a Kobo reader and can access your books regardless. I personally am very much put off buying books from Kobo since I need to read them on a Sony or Nook. I started buying books from them when they were Shortcovers. I have dozens and dozens of books purchased from them over several years. First they had the whole problem with the obnoxious text formatting a year or so ago. Now they have the issue that you can't be guaranteed that you can download you purchases for use on non-Kobo readers. These issues have happened too frequently to have confidence that they are a one time glitch. Buyer beware.

Maybe the influx of customers with Sony readers will end up producing enough complaints that they'll have to do something.

I'm disappointed to read about all these problems, as Kobo seemed like it would be a good source of mainstream books that could be read on a Sony reader using the Sony reader and software.

I am not interested in acquiring other software/removing DRM - that's just not my thing. So I don't know what sources I will be left with for mainstream books.

Confirmed; I show the same issue - Blackberry icon but no download link. Here's the link for anyone else who wants to verify it. (And yes, at $13, I'd certainly be upset if I bought it and couldn't download it!)

Thank you. At least the book is readable in the Kobo app on my iPad so I have an option. Does this issue seem more common for any particular publishers?

@4691mls, the options are certainly reducing for those that want EPUBS. Kobo was one of the best options before these problems. I hope they will sort them out. Another source you might try is ebooks.com.

I bought a Kindle Paperwhite, and most of my new purchases are at Amazon now. And I have more than one eink reader between my Sonys & Nooks to read my past purchases.

Does it appear under "Want to Read"? in the iOS app?

"All" will show all items, be they full books (free or purchased), previews, or side-loaded files.

"Books" will only display full books (free or purchased), or side-loaded files. It will NOT display previews.

"Want to Read" just displays previews.

I'm wondering if it's being seen as a preview for some reason, which could explain why it does not appear on Books, but does appear on All, and, I suspect "Want to Read"

I always download the epub versions. Always. The more likely reason I don't have problems is that I tend to buy adult narrative fiction/non-fiction. Kids books and other heavily graphic formats seem more likely to be kobo only, but not kobo for ereaders, necessarily.

Ultimately, you will make the choices that make sense for you. And that's fine. I was pointing out that not everyone has experienced the difficulties you have had.

I didn't notice there was a "Want to Read" category. Yes, it does.

I tried to buy yesterday this book : "La cuisine c'est aussi de la chimie" from Arthur Le Caisne, ISBN :9782012310568.
I can see it in my library on their website, but neither their kobo desktop app neither my reader can sync it : it just doesn't show anywhere and there is no download button facing it in my library on their website.

I had a chat with their customer care and my correspondant told me there was a problem as she was unable too to download it. I ask for a refund and was told I'll be contacted by their Refund Service and will be sent a double of our conversation : no contact at all quite 24 hours after... and their tchat is not open at this time. The Refund service should contact me within 48 hours and I should be refunded within 5 working days... so it makes 7 days that they'll have use of my money (and I not) for a book that can't be read or download (if ever I get a refund ) 15 € is a lot of money for a book, I scarcely buy books (thanks to Gutemberg project I have a lot to read) but when I do, I'd like them to be available

Thanks for the reply. As it's on the "Want To Read" shelf / collection this does indeed indicate that we, well, the iOS app, is seeing this book as a preview rather than a fully purchased book, which I am assuming (I've not read the thread entire) is the case?

If it is purchased, then if you go here: http://www.kobobooks.com/library/purchased/index.html

Does the book show up?

I don't ever recall seeing a download option for a preview, and I don't believe we have ever offered download options for previews, so that might explain, if indeed this book is a preview, why there is no download option.

If it's a fully purchased book and not appearing as one, either on the website or within the iOS app, that's a different matter, and something worth talking to Customer Care about.

Yes, it appears something got really messed up with this book. Thanks for your help. I'm not sure it's worth the hassle of my time in dealing with customer support.
