In the end I contacted Amazon themselves and harassed them after all I spend a damn fortune on amazon so should be able to do what I want with my own books and device even use calibre if I want to. As I told the I don't want to remove drm; I don't share books but I did want to use calibre. They were understanding, they removed all my kindle content from the amazon cloud and manage my kindle. Then they updated all the kindle content and re-sent it and remotely reset my PW2 now everything works how I want it to, I get to manage my kindle content on calibre and Amazon are back on my favourite list. Think they were slightly annoyed though as I have over 500 books on kindle content lol

Glad it works again.
I really hope that they have something better to manage books than the customer's own MYK page. That's just horrible. One can see that Amazon does not expect people to amass a huge amount of books, as the MYK is clearly not designed to handle that. (I'd still recommend to look into the Apprentice Alf stuff, or have someone do it for you. Then download the books using Kindle for PC, and import them into Calibre. If Alf has been set up correctly: poof. DRM gone. You'll never have any problems ever again, and you can even use your Amazon books on non-Amazon readers if you want to, in the future.) |

Katsunami, that's just what I've been doing when purchasing Kindle books: downloading them to kindle4pc, then taking them into Calibre which has Alf's tools embedded, then converting them into lrf so that I can put the books on my Sony 505. It works.
I'm only hanging around the Kindle dept because I'm thinking of buying a Paperwhite. Learning lots. |

![]() It works the same way with other readers. If you buy a Kobo and shop at Amazon, you can use exactly the same workflow, converting books to EPUB (or use the Kobo-specific KEPUB output plugin) instead of LRF. Should you decide on a Kindle, but want to be able to buy from EPUB sources, you'll replace Kindle4PC with ADE 2.0, and then follow your normal workflow, converting EPUB to AZW3. This is what I've been doing for two years. If you buy a Kindle and shop at Amazon, I'd still use Calibre anyway, to un-DRM. (Actually, I go a step further. If I buy an AZW3 book from Amazon, I either extract an EPUB using the KindleUnpack plugin, or convert to EPUB, whatever works best. Then I sae the original, un-DRM-ed AZW3 and archive it, fix up the EPUB the way I want it for my library, and then convert that back to AZW3. If I use a LIT book, from one of the old BAEN CD's, I do the same; LIT -> EPUB (archive the old LIT) -> AZW3. This way, my entire library has EPUB as a base format, even if the books originally are not EPUBs.) Last edited by Katsunami; 02-15-2014 at 12:24 PM. |

Sounds complicated to me. I followed all the instructions on Apprentice Alf but still it did not remove the drm from some books. Now my PW2 works as I want it to I'm not sure I want to try again though would be nice as then the rest of my family could share my books.

I know, which is why we have to buy duplicates of certain books so my family get their own copy which is good really as I don't tend to share my books, digital or paper real well, expensive though. lol

I do hope you check to see if books you have bought are lendable. Then you could lend them once.
