Thank you - I shall doubtless reach it in time as I work my way through my Baen books.

EDIT: August 2001, in fact, so not too far off in my reading. I look forward to it - thanks for the recommendation!

A good sequel to Carousel Tides, if sometimes the 'magic' seems a bit arbitrary.

Next up: Elisabeth Waters Anthology by Elisabeth Waters et al. This is a collection of all the short stories of hers that I bought from Fictionwise back in May 2006. My similar James Patrick Kelly anthology worked so well in getting me to read a load of short stories without a lot of hassle that I thought it was worth repeating. It also reduces my TBR to 765!

Currently reading "The Blood Telegram: Nixon, Kissinger, and a Forgotten Genocide" by Gary J. Bass (recommended by Lady Stardust in another thread). It deals with the brutal repression (basically a genocide) in 1971 in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) by the government of Pakistan, during which the Pakistani government was given military aid and diplomatic cover by Nixon and Kissinger against the advice of informed State Department officials on the ground. Quite a stunning book.

Yesterday I finished The Way of Kings. I enjoyed the entire book, but the last quarter or so was wonderful. I'm very happy I waited until now to read it so I don't have to wait so long for the next book in the series.

Now I'm reading The Iron hand of Mars, #4 in the Marcus Didius Falco series.

In continuing my reading books about the Civil War, I am now reading A Diary From Dixie by Mary Boykin Chestnut.

I just finished Fortune's Pawn by Rachel Bach - really fun space-based action with a kick-ass heroine (ambitious mercenary).

It's science fiction, but it has a very urban fantasy feel to the writing - just that instead of vampires and werewolves and fae, it's aliens and space ships. Some romance (nothing explicit), but I never felt it overshadowed the plot (the action and shooting at things stayed at the forefront) but actually added to it.

The downside is that now I have two more (not-yet-released) books to add to my wishlist and to get - and sooner rather than later, quite possibly...

So, I finished Sourcery today and I honestly cannot say if I have read it before. I might have, but if I did it was a long time ago and it is very vague. Is there another book where he is in the Dungeon Dimensions and has a similar scene about the point of light in the middle? That scene seems familiar. Anyway, so far one of the less enjoyable Discworld books that I have read, but still ok.

Next is Odd Hours, book 4 of the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz. Another grab from my library.

A fun collection of stories. Some set in MZB's Darkover setting, and some more general fantasy, in a few connected sequences. Much better as a collection than as individual stories, although if I re-made it I might swap some of the stories around - I chose publication sequence for the initial bundle.

Next up: I was reading an anthology of essays by lesswrong. But I might take a break and look at LightSpeed Magazine before their kick-starter offer runs out.

I just finished 'The Definitive Book of Body Language' by Allen Pease. Some interesting ideas that Julius Fast never touched on in his work. Neither are scholarly volumes, so make for interesting, relaxed reading. Ready for more on the same subject, but with more academic standing rather than aimed at sales and social settings.

Especially because it's the cast of characters that make up Sliders team that make the whole thing work. And who wouldn't want to play Porson, his boss!

(This book was still overpriced at Amazon and Kobo, but succumbed to a Kobo 50% coupon to get it into budget range. And give that it's being read by two people, I figure it's good value.)

Next up - #2 in the Tinker series from Wen Spencer -- Wolf Who Rules
Finished off Wolf Who Rules, and enjoyed this reread. It had been long enough since the original read that I was actually surprised a couple of times with things I'd forgotten. The Tinker series is enjoyable, so long as you're willing to completely suspend disbelief regularly. Yeah, I know it's Fantasy, but sometimes the magic seems to invent itself to fit the situation. I got over it, you can too. It's worth it to watch Tinker kick butt.

Next up, Cockroaches, the second book in the Harry Hole series by Jo Nesbo. I really enjoyed The Bat, and this one is going well. This is a Library eBook, since it only just became available in the US, and I was willing to wait for my hold to come up at the BC Library site.

Yeah, yeah, so maybe I'll try to pick up where I left off and see if I can "get over it." I finished Andy Weir's The Martian, just released in ebook form by Random House, and this was a real surprise. I was very late to the party on this one as I see that there are more than a thousand reviews on Amazon, almost all of them five star. At the moment, I'm in Egypt with Amelia Peabody, and planning on being on Safehold on Tuesday.

I just finished "What W. H. Auden Can Do for You" by Alexander McCall Smith, a tribute to Auden. A short and pleasant read.
