Thanks, we're aware of the issue. It's not that easy - the gettext library that is being used for the functionality simply isn't provided on Kobos. We'll have to distribute our own, as it seems.

Kobo Touch lockup with latest nightly builds

Please note, nightly builds may not always be stable but they include all the latest code changes, fixes etc
Can anyone recommend a "gold" build, i.e. one that is known good and stable on a Kobo Touch running latest firmware (3.0.1)?

The reason I'm asking is that I tried installing the last three nightly builds, and in all cases, Koreader runs, but soon locks up the device. The File Manager opens and I see my author folders. I touch one, but that folder doesn't open - it's one of the folders lower down that opens. At this point, it's locked up; screen is non-responsive, and sleep slider does nothing. Only a pin reset brings me back.

FWIW my Kobo Touch locks up frequently with just 3.0.1 on it. While I can't comment on Koreader itself that may not be the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. My Touch 905C is solid as a rock on 3.0.1. I've never had a lockup on vanilla 3.0.1, nor after I patched the firmware with Kobo Patcher. Never freezes on CoolReader 3 either. The only freeze/lockup I experience is with Koreader.

I'm going to try an older build from the 3.0.1 days before 3.1.0 came out.

I am sorry if this is a silly question. I have read the first and last few pages of this thread but I am still unsure as to whether Koreader is stable/bug free in an Aura HD running 3.1.1. I would be very grateful if some of the more experienced users could clarify that for me. If so, could you please point me to the build that works? Thank you in advance.

My AuraHD 3.1.1 is using Koreader 868 and I am about to update it to 912. It has always been working well enough to be my primary reading software. "Bugs" could be ascribed to any software that is under development. I would not really like any software that was not under development, for that would mean that it does not improve or evolve.

I have used most of the builds prior to 868 and noticed nothing but a steady improvement. I can post back here if the update to 912 has any problem that effects my reading.

This might help:https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=226456

Edit: The 912 build and the current KoboLauncher all working well.

Luck;
Ken

Happy to report that https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=739 solved my usability problems with Koreader on a Mark 4 Touch running 3.0.1 as suggested by Ken Maltby in another thread. I can now open and read books using the latest nightly builds.

I've noticed some non-repeatable lockups though. If I open a book and don't touch anything at all, then come back in 5 or 10 minutes, the reader will be frozen (slider for sleep doesn't respond).

Also, the font page shows the page 1/2 footer, but no right arrow to get me to page 2.

I usually have to swipe to turn pages in those pop-up/drop-down menus.

Any news?

Has this project moved elsewhere?

No news since a lot of time! Neither new nightly builds...

I installed the v2013.03-921 nightly build of koreader on my kobo aura to play with it, but my first experience was rather frustrating.

Tapping in the upper left corner expecting to bring up some kind of menu I had unwillingly activated flipping mode, and this seems to have the effect that all the main menu and config menus become almost unresponsive. You have to "massage" the tabs for like 30s before getting any reaction to switch to a different tab. The contents of the tabs are slightly more responsive but nothing great. It does not seem to be a cpu load issue because taping outside of the menus returns to normal view immediately.

So:
- What is this flipping mode (the user guide https://github.com/koreader/koreader...der-User-Guide does not explain this)
- Why does it have such and effect on the menu's ?
- Can i disable certain gestures ?

BTW after I finally figured out that the flipping mode was causing all these troubles, the experience became much more enjoyable

EDIT: I just saw a new version 931 was released, still have to try it

You can disable the page flipping tap zone by setting x, y, w and h of DTAP_ZONE_FLIPPING all be 0 in defaults.lua. Or you can set the variable be DTAP_ZONE_FLIPPING = {x = 0, y = 0, w = 1/16, h = 1/16} to decrease the size of the tap zone.

Thanks for the info!

Now before I disable this and completely forget it even exists, can you tell me what I should be experiencing if I enable it and everything works correctly ?
