I was looking for that info myself. The fact that it does not mention IPS would lead me to believe it is not an IPS panel, that's the kind of thing you'd want users to know.

But seriously folks, while I do dislike hiding specs behind marketing names, why would most users--most especially the Chromebook target market --really care or need to know what IPS is?
I haven't seen BAD LCD technology from a name brand in a long time. And as long as video is smooth and it looks good, I have never been compelled to seek out panel details. There are plenty of things a company can do to screw up a display implementation, so I'm not convinced that saying it's IPS really tells you any more about how it will serve you than does saying it's TruBrite.

If y'all know different, please edumacate me on the ways of display panels, by all means.

Google launches Chromebox for Meetings for $999

At a small media event in Mountain View today, Google announced the launch of Chromebox for Meetings, a $999 Core i7-based ASUS Chromebox setup with a remote, camera and microphone for conference rooms. The system uses Hangouts in the backend and is also compatible with existing conferencing setups from Vidyo and UberConference (for phone calls).

The system includes all the components necessary to run a meeting, with the exception of a display. For the first year, users don’t have to pay any additional costs; after that, the cost is $250 per year. The product is available in the U.S. today and is coming to Australia, Canada, France, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and U.K. Businesses in the U.S. will be able to buy it through CDW, and resellers will be able to get it from SYNNEX. Both HP and Dell will make Chromeboxes for meetings available in the coming months.

And they keep on coming, HP launches a Chromebox:

Targeted at both home and business users, the HP Chromebox follows pretty much the same form factor as its fellow compatriots, basically being a small, squared-off blob with ports all around it. We see at least a pair of USB ports around front and a handful on the back, and HP says that it will pack a fourth generation Core i7 processor (same as the new ASUS Chromebox).

Indeed. With the PC market imploding, it's ripe for Chromebooks and Chromeboxes to take their place. A bit like the mammals taking over from the dinosaurs...

Google and VMware today announced that they are working together to make it easier for Chromebook users in the enterprise to access Windows apps and the Windows desktop on their machines. Using VMware’s Horizon desktop as a service (DaaS), which uses VMware‘s HTML5 Blast protocol, it will now be easier for Chromebook users to connect to a traditional Windows experience.

Absolutely. I've been totally non-fussy regarding any display I've ever used, until my Acer C710. Used on my lap, I'm constantly needing to adjust the angle to be close to perpendicular to my eyes.

Would IPS guarantee better viewing angles in the final product, or could IPS's technological advantage still be screwed up by the implementation, the anti-glare treatment, etc?
What I'm getting at, is would indicating IPS vs. TN tell folks enough of what they need to know or would it be more important to viewing angles as an explicit metric in the specs?

3 years ago, I bought my wife a name brand Laptop.
It was a special at Amazon on the newest greatest Toshibas that had just come out.
I paid $600 or so for the machine, a 15.6" screen.

It had an Intel i3 or i7. I think i7, but I am not positive.

The machine overall is a screamer. It runs fast, like the proverbial "scalded cat."

The screen is great for color and resolution and all that. A second person viewing from the side has to get pretty close, but that isn't a big problem.

BUT even if you are straight on, and you tilt the screen back or forward 5 degrees the display is markedly worse. (I should say totally unacceptable for me.)

I hate it. IPS is the way to go.

My wife's $219 Chromebook, 4GB Ram, 320GB HD has a much better screen as far as viewing angles, in my opinion.

The new ASUS Chromebooks coming will be designated:

C200 and C300

Some people have postulated that the C200 will be a 12" machine and the C300 will be a 13" machine. I hope so. The 11.6" machine keyboards are a bit cramped in my opinion.
