This is that Whispersync deal where you buy the specially marked Kindle version (often free) and then can get the very reduced price of the Audible version. So, for about $15, got both kindle and audio for Dickens' 5 most well known novels. Yay! I'm not a big fan of classics before 1900, but I've enjoyed Dickens since Junior High.

I did avoid other purchases by reminding myself "Can I read it in 2014?" : Is it part of a series I'm already reading or planning to read?" "Can I get it through Amazon Prime rental? (bro let's me have his kindle for this)".
I must admit that professionally done audio books for $3 each is very good indeed.

And congratulations on resisting other temptations.

I haven't bought any for nearly a month! One of my challenges this year is to read all the books I have, and it seems that my drive to succeed is bigger than my urge to by ebooks.

Staying away from the kobo discount codes thread helps as well. I can't go there without ending up buying something

Does that mean you haven't yet used 50feb for 50%, or thanks3_276 to get 35% off? That's a shame.

(Yeah, I'm evil )

(On the other hand, I almost bought the Dune Saga, which would bring it down from €30 to €15 for 6 books, but I think I'll have plenty of opportunity to buy that. I still have loads of unread books...)

That really IS evil! But I won't buy any! Because on top of my "Finishing all books I own", I also told myself not to buy anything for a month (which I ruined in January by buying...exactly, a few ebooks), and I am soooo close now! Though maybe in a few days...

6 books for €15? I'd go for it! (Who's the evil one now? )

I'm not using the codes either lately. I went on a buying binge in December/January and I think I've had enough. Haven't used the 50% off code from this month, although, there's some books I could get with that. I think I'm done buying for awhile and will just read what I've got, or there's always the public library.(At least until the next Star Trek book comes out...LOL)

I've just noticed that this year I've sent $90.41 on 52 books, but I've read 27 books that cost me $90.40.

I must be buying mainly really good bargains for my read books to be costing twice as much (per book) as my bought books for this year.

My read books cost more than my bought books in 2013 ($2.95:$2.48) and in 2012 ($2.85:$2.27). I think this must mean that I am reading my backlist. But good bargains do increase the TBR!

I picked up so much stuff in December, I didn't think there was anything left in my several series' to bother with the 50% off coupon, but they've added more. I bought the most recent Bill Slider novel, but held off on everything else. I am glad that I did make those purchases in December, because I noted some of those early books are no longer for sale. Strange. They are series. Most people want to start with book one, not book 14.

Arrggghh. You just reminded me that I have a coupon and am still one Bill Slider behind. There goes my good intentions again -- I just bought Blood Never Dies. And I think I'd better avoid the Kobo Coupons thread for a bit or I'll buy the new one.

I am up to 7 books for the year, but only $15.93 spent. I can live with that. 5 of the 7 will have been read by the end of tonight, I can live with that also.

Don't beat yourself up. If you are in the US, Bill Slider are rarely discounted more than a dollar or two, so Kobo gives a great deal. I don't even mind that Harrod-Eagles is waiting a year after the hardcover comes out before issuing the ebook. Just hope the audio is out before I get there. BTW, Hard Going is now available. That's the one after Blood Never Dies. AND it qualifies as being part of a series you are currently reading.

At some point in time, I want to look more into the King Arthur stuff. I studied it somewhat in High School, and always liked that kind of stories. Because many of the free versions are crap with regard to layout, I've bought some of the better known ones, that looked good in Amazon's preview and got good ratings:

Le Mort D'Arthur - Sir Malory Thomas, Amazon, $1.20
The Legend of King Arthur and his Knights, illustrated - Sir James Knowles, Amazon, $1.20
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (Prose) - ??? (from 1898), Amazon, $1.20

And one expensive version, for which I used the 50feb code at Kobo:
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (Verse) - Simon Armitage, Kobo, $10 -> $5

4 books for $8.6 ($2.15, €1.58), which is not too shabby

I could have used the code to buy something much more expensive, but everything I'd like is not available for my country. My aunt has an account in a different country, so I can use that code there as well; fortunately, I manage her ebooks

Oh, and I've started to pick up freebees again, if they have a lot of good reviews.

Yes, I know it is. But I'm under discipline for this, and can NOT buy another book for a bit. Besides, there's bound to be Kobo coupons next month.

I had made myself anther anthology from a whole heap of short stories I bought from Fictionwise, this time by Elisabeth Waters. My TBR is down to 765! And will be a legitimate 764 when I finish reading it.

It's just an accounting thing, but it pleases me.

And no books bought in February so far!

The text seems to be fine, but damnation, this book is coded badly. It's delivered as a MOBI, and it seems to be hard-coded, including line breaks and all.

This thing required some serious editing after converting it to EPUB, but it's fine now.
