Chapter titles for Heart of Rock
Heart of Rock is three interconnected stories - while they're set up as chapters, they can each be read separately.
Chapter 1 is called The Nightmares, and tells about how the gargoyles were created to drive off the Nightmares that were threatening a city of wizards. The Heart of Rock is the magic amulet that brings the gargoyles to life. Chapter 2 is called The Tests, and tells about a distant kingdom, a few hundred years later, that is being invaded by another kingdom out for the riches found in the mountains of the first kingdom. Three heroes set out to find the HoR, but only one passes the tests needed to find it and bring it home to save his kingdom. Chapter 3 needs a title. It tells about the Gargoyle king, who sets out to regain the amulet, which is what allows the Gargoyles to live. I had been calling Chapter 3 Heart of Rock, but that's also the name of the book, and I don't want to use the name twice. any suggestions? |

How about, Chapter 3: Heart of life or Chapter 3: Life for the Gargoyles? as a possibility.

Kidding. I think "Heart of Rock" is the best way to go. It's a good title for the third part, and also using it twice is a good way to tie the package together. That is why albums usually have title tracks, after all. Hardly a radical idea. If you're dead set against it, I'll probably have to re-read the third part in isolation to come up with an idea that stands well for it alone. I'll get back to you.... ![]() Last edited by ApK; 01-31-2014 at 04:32 PM. |

"The Gargoyle King" doesn't actually say what becomes of the King, it might be the tale of his demise for all that the phrase gives away.
Or perhaps, more in line with the previous titles and potentially neatly ambiguous, would simply be a title of "The King". Along similar lines you could try "The Amulet". Otherwise, I'm with ApK on this one, I don't have a problem with having a title chapter match the book title, particularly when it's the conclusion to the related stories. |

what about "the two kings"? since the climax is where the two kings meet face to face over the Heart of Rock.

Or something like "set in stone." since it is a book about a race of beings made of stone.
