Depending on where you live, the new Kobo book store should let you have a cart.

Also, Amazon sometimes has an e-cart. Their site seems to waver between two styles (although that could just be desktop vs. mobile), and the new style has a cart for ebook, MP3, and other electronic purchases.

I don't plan on using Kobo for anything other than storing the Sony books I already have. I do have about a dozen Kobo books and have to figure out what to do with the gift card.

I can't decide on the GC balance - do I want to take the chance that it won't transfer to Kobo? Maybe it's better to have one last Sony Store binge.

Amazon has had gift cards forever. Also, lot's of credit card reward programs offer them, as do those coin machine, and I think even Turbo Tax will send you your refund as an amazon gift cart with a bonus amount.

I kinda doubt credit balances will transfer. I would say, spend all your credit balance on books that are listed in the Kobo store to ensure they will transfer.

I thought the cart didn't work well with coupons, like unlimited coupons only reduced one book price. Does it allow you to enter multiple coupons and is the largest coupon applied to the highest priced book?

According to Sony, they will, but yeah - I can see that going sideways.

Thanks for the tip on making sure the book is on Kobo too - hadn't thought of checking that.

I did a quick check. Since I have all of Louis L'Amour's books in paperback, this seems like a good opportunity to get some in digital format.

In general;
Google Play- $5.12
Kobo- $5.99
Sony- $5.99
Kindle- $5.12. Kindle also has several bundles that bring down the per book price quite a bit.

Looking at the Kobo online site I did not see anywhere to see their coupon specials.

I get most of mine from this thread in the Deals forum, and Kobo emails out some pretty frequently. Not all books are coupon-able, so sometimes I go Amazon if the price difference warrants it.

Kobo had *insane* sales last holiday season. I got every Tolkien book they had for 75% off thanks to that thread, so it's a definite must-read MR thread for me.

Another author I like is David Rosenfelt. I have all of his Andy Carpenter series, but none of his standalones. Kobo and Sony prices were the same, Google Play was about $.40 cheaper for every book and Kindle was about $.75 cheaper than Google Play. I even checked iTunes which was the same as Sony.

The feature that made me favor Sony readers was their inclusion of high end unabridged bilingual dictionaries for several major European languages. I can't miss their ebook store, since I've never bought a book there, but given that its demise goes hand in hand with the demise of the readers themselves, it is quite a pity.
