I also use Georgia at the moment. I have dabbled with Fontin and Charis in the past. Georgia and Charis are good because they have a lot of unusual gylphs lacking in many other fonts, e.g., ligatures for "ffi" etc. Some rendering engines (I am thinking of Adobe RMSDK as used on Kobos etc) automatically convert multiple characters (like "ffi" in the word officer) into the single character ligature, and if this is not in the font then it will be displayed as a blank.
I use the attached epubs for testing fonts, as they have a lot of unusual characters in them. Last edited by ShellShock; 02-09-2014 at 04:40 AM. |

We used to have many threads like this a few years ago.
Just do an advanced search here and look for word gentium posted by kacir ;-) Also search for names of fonts, like amasis, charis SIL, verdana ... For a long time my favorite was Gentium. Nowadays it is Ubuntu font. Also have a look at Droid - development was sponsored by Google so they have font readable on small Android screens. Have a look at google web fonts if you look for a freely downloadable good quality font http://www.google.com/fonts |

I sometimes have to read 15 or 20 pages in a new font before it settles into my eyes. Georgia is a standard for me, but I sometimes read in Amasis, a tweaked Gill Sans, and less often Felbridge. Sideloaded, for different purposes I like Bitter, Averia Sans or Serif, ITC Stone Informal, Lora, Museo and a few others.

I usually end up with Linux Libertine, made a bit bolder with Kobo's brilliant TypeGenius feature.
And here's another link for the friends of Comic Sans. (WARNING: Contains non-family friendly language!!) Last edited by doubleshuffle; 02-09-2014 at 05:44 AM. |

Wingdings - takes a bit of adjustment at first but then it's awesome.

Very interesting. Didn't know that. I tried Open Dyslexic with dyslexic students, but they weren't too impressed.
I don't think it looks similar to Comic Sans, fortunately. But it is a very clear, easily readable font. I don't like it on my reader, but I use it for all the handouts I prepare for my students. Experimented with some regular serif font recently, because I was a bit tired of Trebuchet, but students (elderly ladies, in that case) complained at once and demanded their Trebuchet back. |

I like Caecilia on the Paperwhite.
For the night theme on tablets or with small phone screens I prefer a sans-serif font. When I switch fonts it takes a while to get used to it, so I don't make up my mind right away. |

Using otf fonts can provide you with ligatures. I do get them with Linux Libertine otf. |

Depends on the device for me - Nickle on the Kobos, Amasis or Really No. 2 (+75, -75) on my Sonys, and Helvecta or Trebuchet on my old NookST.
I'm with Blossom a few pages back - some books just need a good, old fashioned font. I wouldn't mind a 'bad typeset on cheap paperstock' font for Jim Thompson novels. |

I forget what it's called because it's so long since I installed it, but it's a semi-bold sans I got from Dafont. Easier to read in low light.
